I Am Finding It Difficult to Sell on eBay

I’ve been selling random stuff on eBay for years. Recently I don’t even get one watcher.

Anyone experiencing the same issue? I assume it’s impossible to search for items since all that China junk comes up.

I am having similiar issues and am sure ebay tweaks its search algorithm to favour power sellers / ebay stores.

Are you selling a brand new iPhone XR still sealed in box?

    • Lol

    • Make sure to disclose it was stolen otherwise you can get snad case. :)

I think people treat eBay more like Amazon now. They look for stores that have plenty of stock and 50,000+ feedback.

You, selling a random, possibly used item are of little interest to today consumers. That’s why gumtree exists and eBay pushes sellers like you over there…

    • Yes your right. I was only able to sell my second hand items on Gumtree. However, it was no worth the money. To many time wasters and creepy people on that site.,

By having permanent sell 40 items for free promos?

      • Final Value Fees are not free though. That alone is around 10% of the total price.

I have no problems selling quality second hand items on eBay.

Anything else I just put on Gumtree because I don't mind creepy folk.

      What’s your address? 👀

    • I don't mind creepy folk.

      Really now?

      • As seller, I keep screen door closed walk outside and meet them with goods in hand.
When I buy, I arrive, message them saying I am out front parked in car (describe car). Sometimes they say come in, sometimes they just bring item out.
It does become a danger when you have random strangers from the internet inside your home, or you inside theirs. 1 of my friends who loves gumtree actually sent text 1 day saying he was worried and giving details of address he is attending (worried something might happen to him, and wanted someone to know). He must have really been keen on the item, I think if there were that many signs it was sus, I would have just not gone, not bought item from creepy seller.
The most uncomfortable situation I have been in is when I didn't know for sure, but strongly suspected, that item might be stolen and/or traded for drugs, but had already agreed to purchase before I arrived. The people seemed nice enough, just the way the explained how they come across the item seemed suspicious. Couldn't really back out of sale at that point with no good solid reason though. Maybe should have asked for a receipt, in hindsight. If they aren't happy to provide paerwork that they sold it to you, well that kind of comfirms its likely not legally their property.

  • It really depends on what you're selling. If it's 5 year old electronics for too high a price, or it's super niche product then you'll hardly get much views. If you're selling new stuff, you'll be able to sell it somewhat easily.

Quite unfair to generalise your experience to everyone without finding out the specifics.

    • I’ve never had issues in the past selling these type of products.

Most items are brand new and 70%-80% off the retail price. Kids toys, baby accessories, branded clothing and unwanted gifts.

      • Maybe make your title more appealing.

No Longer Am I Able to Sell on eBay

From the title, I thought you were banned or something…

It just kinda sounds like OP is being overly dramatic.

"No longer am I able to sell on eBay! Hark the foul winds!"

Curses ebay with the wrath of a 1000 flaming heathens. I shake fist in thy directions.

        • Your mother was a Classified, and your father smelled of Gumtree postings!

Look here Karen, no one wants your used baking tin. Okay. Leave us alone.

    • Yes exactly, what are you trying to sell?

I thought this thread was going to be able being banned from selling.

Why people aren't buying from you? They're burnt out after Christmas.
You don't think people spent all of their spare cash during the Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales?? Let alone holidays and Christmas food.

  • I get it - I find it really difficult to sell on Ebay too. I have a lot of brand name clothes still with tags on them (Witchery, Wayne Cooper, Ralph Lauren etc) and new, unworn leather shoes with boxes and price stickers on the sole of the shoes. No bites - maybe one maximum. I see a lot of people have the same issue (but theirs are priced significantly higher). Seasons of DVDs (many sealed) with super cheap shipping, no bites. I've given away so much stuff over the past year or two because it just can't sell (two book cases of quality books, two sets of shelving of DVDs, at least 100 items of clothing).

I'm reluctant to sell anything worth anything more on Ebay because of how easy it is for buyers to screw sellers over too.

    • I have no experience or even know exactly how these websites work, but people I know use https://au.carousell.com/ and Facebook Marketplace for clothing.

      • I’ll try them. Thanks

    • I’m trying to sell branded clothing with tags as well. Some stuff have tags with a $200 price and I can’t even get $5. This wasn’t an issue a couple of years ago. I’ve given most stuff to charity as well.

    • Try Facebook market place, have had quite alot of interest and sales there

Tell us more about your locally handmade wares.

  • Yes , it takes me ages or just doesn’t happen. I’m preferring Facebook nowadays, items sell much better on there.
