Bagels Sydney Inner & East

Hi all.

Been looking for bagels in Sydney after a recent trip to New York.

Once upon a time they could be bought from Cyrils in Haymarket, and DJs Food Hall Market Street.

I know there are a couple of 'designer' bagel places charging upwards of $3.50/bagel.

I'm just looking for some simple tasty bagels that aren't supermarket rubbish.

Surely in Sydney's East there must be some bakeries?

Suggestions appreciated!

  • I find in Melbourne, farmers markets generally have a decent range and more at the $2 price point.

  • What’s wrong with store bought bagels? They don’t taste all that different from “gourmet” bagels, but the flavours might be a bit limiting.

The Bagel Co - Rose bay…. at least thats what a quick google search told me!

  • There's a bagel company that boils their bagels just like in NY and they sell at the Pyrmont Markets. Probably sell at other markets in East as well. Don't recall the name unfort.

  • go back to new york, you're no longer australian

I'm the owner of Brooklyn Boy Bagels in Sydney, and we make the only authentic New York bagels in Sydney. I'm fa New York native, so I got into the business after trying numerous bagel places in Sydney and Melbourne. I concluded that the only way to get a decent bagel was to make them at home, which is what I did for 12 years before launching my bakery. We do farmer's markets across the Sydney (we used to do Pyrmont, but the markets are now gone). We're openings shop in the Gateway Building near Circular key in mid- February, so please visit me for the full New York experience. We do cost more than the "rolls with a hole" that you find elsewhere, but you really can't make a proper bagel without boiling, a two-day fermentation and quality ingredients, and with the world's highest minimum way, $3.50 is what a decent bagel costs to make. Spend less, and you'll buy yourself a mouthful of shortcuts, additives and preservatives.
