Yeah definitely worth it. Ask your builder if they have had any experience with pedantic building inspectors (eg from banks). Then hire them.

    1000% worth it!
I have used one throughout my build and got way more back in returns by their stuff ups then the fees they (inspectors) charge.
Inform the builder in writing that you wish to conduct an independent building inspection throughout the stages.

Go along to the meeting in Feb at Ryde RSL of the Institute of Building Consultants and ask a bunch of questions for free.

    • You are paying an inspector that is well versed with building law.
Any breaches that they find in the inspection is mapped to the building code that is breached, along photos of the breach.
It comes with a detailed report that is sent to the builder so they can respond to repair.

Building law is very complicated and comprehensive, so a little dab, asking questions & liaising with a consultant is a waste of time as you cannot capture everything in a short period of time.

      ROI.

      Cheers

      • Asking questions leads to employing the right inspector and liaising with them and the builder in the right way to get the best outcome - could save thousands in the end.

lol, have you done this yourself?
And .. have you had an building inspector conducting an inspection of your purchase?

          • @vinni9284: Last I checked you arent the OP so lay off people perfectly fine suggestions. Power trip.

            • @swapsey: No it's not. It's not a power trip.

I went through the stages of building inspections and they cut corners big time!
Do you think that a vendor or a registered building inspector is going to get repairs done when breaches are found?

IMO many builders cut corners and they will try to wriggle out of everything so they don't pay

  • Hi, OP. I live in a similar area with lots of new developments. There are already some groups about these new areas including North Kellyville, Schofields, Box Hill, etc. on Facebook that you can join and discuss about these topics. OzBargain may be not the best place for this.

  • Hi all, also buying new home soon to start construction possibly in June located at Schofields. Can anyone recommend any well valued priced inspectors?
