These have an inbuilt nickel cadmium battery that is pretty small. Nickel cadmium batteries are well known for their "memory" effects, and generally give out fairly quickly. If you put them back on the charger between uses you are shortening the eventual life of them very quickly, which is probably what oral B want you to do.
You are better off buying one of the sonic toothbrushes off ebay with a replaceable aa battery, and use your own niMH battery which wont suffer from memory and will give you many more uses between charges.

These are $20 at woolies and coles a lot of the time, I'd pay a bit extra for the Xiaomi Soocas x1 which is a very good clone of the philips sonicare line.
