OzBargain asleep at the wheel on the best travel deal this year

Just saw this in the paper - https://www.theguardian.com/business/2019/jan/02/cathay-paci…

Couldn't see anything about it on the deal pages so I guess no-one here reads the right travel blogs! First class return Hanoi to Canada in August would have been sweet for under 1k

Maybe Ozbargain Vietnam picked it up ;) ?

  • thanks

  • Merged from Cathay Pacific bargain of the year!

Just saw this article on BBC Facebook page. Cathay Pacific had Business class fares for $675 instead of $16,000 from Vietnam to New York. Apparently works out 95% discount on fare!!!

I heard on BBC radio last night- I was half asleep- Cathay made a boo boo and some people got hundreds of thousands worth of around the world first class tickets for US$600. And Cathay are honouring the deal. Around the world- not just one flight.

Could be wrong. The news reports today don't mention huge amounts but I thought I heard I heard one man interviewed say he had a quarter million's worth in round the world fares.

Yeah that doesn't sound made up at all.

  • Are tickets transferrable, because you could have made a major killing on selling the tickets. Ouchy for CP. Hadn't realised the cost of business class. Talk about over the top margin on those seats.

  • C'mon, where is Ozbargain when you need it

  • Would've booked it as a gift for the parents without hesitating! Awesome deal great for those who secured the tickets.

It's a blessing and a curse for these passengers! Once you get a taste of business/first class, you never want to go back to cattle class again. Then you yearn for the first class rides again, that you use all your frequent flyer points, then savings, then borrow money from your family and friends and never pay them back…slippery slope :)
