BEST Restaurants Gift Card: PROBLEM: WARNING

The BestGiftcards.com.au Restaurant doesn't make it clear for new users that:

1) it has two types of gift card: Black and Silver
2) not all restaurants accept both cards
3) before you go to the restaurant, check on the website that they accept your kind of card

Unfortunately I didn't know this.
I received the card as a gift from someone.
I looked up on the site map, which restaurants are available.
I didn't know to check the black and silver card icons (how would I know there are 2 cards etc? :S)

After having problems I rang up at 4pm and was told by the help desk person "I'm the only person around and I am on a call with someone else, can you please call back in 10 minutes".

I called back at 4:20pm and was told "the person who deals with that isn't here. She's gone home … I guess she's gone home early. She'll call you back tomorrow"

I ended up calling back at 9:30am the next day. That's when it was explained to me (since it's not explained on the restaurant search page). She then tried to finish with "So that's all good now". I told her that no, I'd splashed out more because I thought this was a gift card that works. No sympathy or understanding. Not happy.

Also I was advised they are trying to roll out the new cards to all the restaurants but it'll take a while due to the holiday season …

So, they shouldn't have started selling the cards till they had the system in place.

Really unpleasant experience. Make sure you warn people what to do, before you give it to them.

I did not buy/get these, but I know the potential trap of Black/Silver. Thanks for confirming this.

I think I have a black card from a previous deal so will definitely double check at the T&Cs. Thanks for the PA!

  • Thanks for the heads up! It shows how much of a mess their roll out is given that they don't let you know which colour you're getting when you try to purchase online.

Do you know which is the newer one, black or silver?

    • Silver is the newer one.

It doesn't work with the eftpos system. The restaurant has to log into the website and enter the card's details

  • Unfortunately I didn't know this.
I looked up on the site map, which restaurants are available.

Strange, when I first when to the map, it prompted me to filter by my card type and each restaurant has a clear tick or cross next to the card.

Clicking on a restaurant brings up a even large graphic of this tick/cross for each card.

Seems pretty clear to me from a place picked at random

  • Great way to take people's money without almost no losses.

Simple - take your business elsewhere folks. Don't buy these cards.

  • So whats the difference between the 2 cards anyway?

    • The newer silver one, needs to be redeemed online, by the restaurant.
The other black one, is a swipe card.

Some restaurants can redeem black, some silver, some both.
