For the rich banker who wants to "dress down" on casual Fridays…..

Why are these shoes so expensive?

    • Because they are the best shoes you can buy. They are hand made and last forever. Great shoes and still amazing quality.

        Can 2nd this.

meh … there's plenty of expensive mens shoes around. Church's, Bally, Ferragamo are a few that come to mind.

I don't believe that RM Williams have any magical properties that make them last longer than any other shoe.

        • +1

Doubt you’ve owned a pair then. I’ve had them all of my adult life, they’re amazing shoes. They fit like a glove. But repairs are expensive. My last repair cost over $200

            • @salmon123: Yeah, they’re really bogan. Lol.

                • +9

@salmon123: Arguably more bogan to write 'your' when you mean 'you're'.

@salmon123: Come back when you've worn a pair. Maybe then you can add some value here with your comment.

@salmon123: I don’t think someone who doesn’t know the difference between you’re and your can really talk about other people being bogans.

@[Deactivated]: Coming from a small country town country cowboy types ruined these shoes for me long ago. (full driza-bone , akubra hat types)

I always found it funny these are popular with city private school boy types when they are polar opposite to the country types wearing them.

                Good marketting from RM.

                  Good marketting from RM

I have never seen RM marketing in my life, I just hear how amazing they are through word of mouth.

        • They probably don't but they have exceptional craftsmanship for the price, and if cared for correctly can be a 'buy it for life' purchase. If you want a Chelsea boot that can be paired with a relaxed-formal or casual attire then they're a great all-rounder purchase. They've become exceedingly popular in my office for that reason I suspect.

        • Lloyds are also really good shoes, much cheaper and will last as long as you keep replacing the soles.

None of those brands make a better Chelsea boot than R.M., but charge similar or more for their version - usually made of stitched letter, as opposed to a single piece.

For example, I'd rather have an R.M. than this Church version.

I'm not going to bother with fashion brands, but if you want to talk about expensive shoes you can always go up a level: John Lobb, Edward Green, etc.)

I'd still pick a pair of R.M. over any of these.

        • perfect for high yielding bogans who attend the weekend rodeos striding their equidae named Mercedes.

        • You are mistaken. They are magic. Go get one.

      • I bought a pair of RM craftsman couple of years ago. Had to get them repaired after 2nd time I wore them.

This should be their everyday price

      • I'd rather buy 4 of them and change every now and then.

        • every now and then

But then you're also having to purchase new ones every so often. These will last a long time.

    • You get the whole skinned cow with them.

For that price they better be made from chinchillas!

Last forever cos youbarely wear them?

    • I've been wearing mine 2-3 times a week for the last 2 years and they are still going incredibly strong

I thought goat leather was better than cow leather. I have handmade nonRM goat leather boots and they are only 200 something (which I get for $80 on sale) and last forever.

    • lots of leathers are better than cow. horse and kangaroo are really good for boots. more exotic stuff like bison and kudu are good too.

cow is plentiful and cheap. rm williams can easily buy huge near-perfect (boring, characterless) hides for mass factory production. it's more difficult to do that kind of cheap mass production with other types of leather.

these guys are taking the piss

    Nungar trading.

  • RMs aren’t the only type of boots that last forever and fit like a glove. It is very naive to think that. Regardless I’d get RMs at $479.
