Flight Ticket Payment Didn't Go through but Still Received E-Tickets?

Hi,

So I ordered a flight ticket in early December using Bestjet and found that the company went into voluntary administration close to Christmas.

I only found out that today and called the airline to confirm if I still have the tickets as I have paid for them.

The airline found my reservation but no tickets were issued and Bestjet never gave them the money, so I had to buy them again.

I bought them again but this time directly through the airline and gave them my credit card details.

They sent an e-ticket through to me but my credit card payment got declined as I put a cap on my spending limit (5k per month).

I immediately raised the cap after and told them but they told me the payment has gone through? My bank statement doesn't show anything pending or gone through.

But I received an email saying payment failed which I sent through to them.

They said they received the payment. What can I do? I'm worried that I'll be denied flight on the day as I'm going through a multi-city trip with a few stop overs (so I may miss the next flight). They are all with the same airline company.

What can I do now?

    When is your flight?
Wait for a couple of days and check your bank statement again - the charge may appear there after a while. If not, then likely payment did not go through (call them up again and ask if your ticket is still valid - if they say yes, you've just scored free tickets to wherever you are going!)

  • Log in to your reservation using the reference on your e-ticket. If you can log in, take screenshots of all the details.

  • sorry to hear about your BestJet situation - we have booked with them too although our airline has received payment and issued a ticket (Thai, to BKK).

Have you joined the facebook Bestjet Fiasco Action Group page? you have to apply to join but they will keep you up to date with what is happening. Lots of people have been successful with a charge back - hope you have been able to do that too.

    • I had the same thing - flight through Thai via Bestjet - contacted Thai, all good in the hood.

Hi, I had the same experience too as yours but mine was motel.booking, I can feel your worries. My credit card issuer BankWest was not useful at all. I went to their branch and explained the position as what you did here. The counter clerk was not useful at all. She won’t explain and check for me and just said yes there was no payment done by my credit card with them. Of course I was not happy and wished the clerk to further check for me, but she insistently refused. The matter went a bit hot and we had the manager out and unfortunately he was on the side of the ckerk and said the same that no payment was made according to their record. Then I went further if that was the case I wished to close my account with them on spot. Long story short, the payment appeared after several days in my credit card. I closed my oedit card account with BankWest, and started a Debit Card with Westpac. All troubles solved.

So if the payment hadn't gone through on your account, what else were you expecting the bank staff to be able to tell you? They would only have your account details open on their screen - simply put, the transaction is either there or it's not. They're not able to predict whether a transaction will be coming through in the future.

They're not the ones making the reservations for you and there's no way they'll be able to check the status.

The situation would have been frustrating for you, but I think you were barking up the wrong tree!

  • I've had this with Amex. Flight was from Auckland and it took about 4 days to see it on my account. If it's Amex call the call centre and they will be able to see the payment.

  • There is a difference between a flight being confirmed and a flight being ticketed.
Confirmed means your details are all there, everything is being held for you, pending payment. Ticketed means fully confirmed and the ticket is yours.
Sometimes they do send out itinerary just for confirmed

    • I'm not sure. I asked for a booking confirmation but they just sent the itinerary again.

I can log into the airline site and choose seats, meals and hotels for transits. I've paid for upgrade of seats.

I'm just worried if I go on the day to the airport and they won't let me on I am totally screwed.

I called the airline again recently and they said the flight is confirmed and has been paid for from what they can see.

But there is nothing pending or any changes in my credit card account.

I called my bank and they said no transactions has been made..

where is the money coming from?

its been nearly 2 weeks and i am flying in 2 days
