Looking to Purchase an Electric Folding Bike

Hi guys looking to purchase an electric folding bike, so many different models etc bike needs to be 250w and pedal assisted + foldable, any brand to buy or stay away from?

Comments

  • A colleague of mine swears by the brand Brompton.

  • I have ridden a folding electric bike before.

The one comment I'd make is that if you wish to ride without power or assistance it's very hard.

    a) you are riding a clown bike where the cranks are short hence loss o f leverage.

    b) being electric the bike is heavier, compounding the above.

  • I’m in the same boat. I saw a folding bike @ Anaconda, I think from memory it was a Fluid Volt Traveller, but that the warranty on components for a $2000 bike, that was admittedly down to $1000 (as part of their clearance and one must be a member to get that price), was only a year wasn’t exactly inspiring, and that the motor was in the hub, which to my understanding means that if the spokes get bent then the rear wheel hub and motor needs to be replaced, and I also understand that mid drive motors, somehow, produce more torque, which is better for hills?

I mean, considering the price of electric bikes in Australia, which I think are pretty ridiculous to be honest, but that’s another story, I guess for that price from a large retailer maybe it isn’t that bad?

I think a folding bike makes the most sense, in many respects in terms of functionality, however, as has been pointed out it may not be the most comfortable to ride?

  • I have been looking at a folding larger size bike from dyson bikes.

    https://www.dysonbikes.com.au/products/adventure-folding-26-…

Has pedal assist (cadence) and throttle and aesthetically looks good.

But the price of $1999!……hence still waiting.

Agree ebikes in Oz are ridiculously priced and the range in the lower price brackets is fairly limited unless you're willing to trust in generic Chinese made.

  • Cheap, folding and electric aren’t going to be good bed fellows. Folding bikes are OK, but you need to get a decent one or there will be some fair sized compromises. Same goes for electric.
