        • Sounds like BS to me, their call queues are probably being smashed right now. They cant refuse an order based on credit checks for outright purchases. They can only refuse it for incorrect/delivery address and sometimes for suspect/excessive number of items - that is unless they've changed the rules again.

      • some updates on my order. Went to Tlife store and the staff couldn't find anything wrong with my credit risk, and got on the phone with various department, trying to find if there is something wrong with me or my account, nothing what so ever, and no one can tell why my order was declined. The Tlife shop doesn't have any stock so they can't even do anything to compensate me even though the staff wanted to. After nearly 2 hours, they found out they will have stock tomorrow and will reserve one for me to buy in store.

JB just rang me to say I can pick one up today for the same $360 though…..

        • I had same situation, order cancelled.. frustrating run around by telstra yesterday.. reordered and emailed gerd this morning and hoping to get a response.

  • Welcome Telstra.

Now it would be good if you would post a great deal on 1tb monthly quota cable internet….

  • just bought two!

    • just got an email from telstra with my tax invoice.

does this mean that my order has been approved?

didn't say when it will be delivered.

any idea when they will be delivered?

      • does this mean that my order has been approved?

        Yes

any idea when they will be delivered?

        within 2-3 business days

        • My information is that orders from Friday will be delivered tomorrow, strangely the majority of orders made on Saturday will be delivered AFTER those made on Sunday.
Makes no sense to me, but go figure.
The tax invoice means that your payment has been accepted and its currently in their order system, but does not necessarily mean its passed the other checks that are in place.

        • Does your information indicate if the Saturday orders will be delivered before the Easter break?

        • To atlas (damn 4 level comment restrictions) Not certain at the moment. I'll let you know as soon as I know. Fingers crossed.
I imagine it would be a great point of frustration if for some internal reason the order you placed before someone else was completed after. Wait and see tomorrow morning as people post that their packages have been delivered. Might be time to lodge some complaints or provide some feedback and if so demand some answers for why this could occur.
In the meantime I'll be putting my head to the ground and listening for any rumblings :-)

        • Sorry about the late reply, n00b post restrictions. Saturdays orders are now being done. Not sure if they can all be completed so they can be shipped out before the long weekend though. They're still working on Sundays/Mondays orders so obviously someone high up hasn't learn from Hitler's mistakes of WWII. Fingers crossed.

        • Thanks for the update buddy.

FYI - I dropped by my local store this morning and managed to pick one up for $299. Then I called up to cancel my online order. Supposedly everything was fine.

Now I just received an email saying it has been despatched!

        • Bad news, about two-thirds of the orders from Saturday haven't been touched. I've been advised it affects the orders made in the afternoon - ~4:00PM onwards.
In addition, about half of Mondays orders haven't been touched either. Don't hold your breath if you're hoping your order arrives before the Easter break.

Gerd I've been trying all weekend to get this price matched at Harvey Norman and they won't as it is not UNlocked as you say it is….even numerous Telstra reps at Telstra online store say it's not unlocked…what's with that??

    • i think the OP/rep was fairly clear and explicit in the headline that the unit IS unlocked.

certainly if it turns out otherwise, you will have recourse to Fair Trading etc etc?

  • I ordered on Friday, Havent recevie the tax invoice (Just one Email about my Order Number), anyone else?

    • Ordered mine Friday and got e-mail with order number/confirmation and Tax Invoice in one shortly after. Got another e-mail this morning to say it had been sent.

  • Neither have I.
Gerd, On a different note does anyone know why it says USB tethering on the Telstra site, I thought on Froyo you can have wireless bluetooth tethering with your fone?
Can any expert care to comment please as I'd rather leave the sim in my fone and do wireless tethering the tab to it??

    • USB tethering I'm thinking means you can connect the TAB to your PC via cable so you can use that as a wireless modem. Much like you can tether an iPhone via USB to a mac/pc and use that to get online.

      • Thanks for replying, I am aware of how tethering works but I am actually referring specifically Bluetooth Tethering.i.e wireless.
Just makes no sense why Telstra put on site USB tethering as a feature when Android FROYO2.2 OS supports Bluetooth WIRELESS tethering…..unless there is some sinister bloatware that limits the standard FROYO OS…..I sincerely hope not, who wants a crappy usb wired when you can do wireless??

        • +3

Seriously, if you're talking 'wireless', why would you want to set up bluetooth tethering when (like the Galaxy S) you can just set these suckers up as a WiFi AP? In comparison, BT tethering is convoluted & just plain awful! ;)

who wants a crappy usb wired when you can do wireless??

How's about for a desktop PC that has neither BT or WiFi!!!

        • +2

@Stew - Exactly. I had to use USB tether to fix a PC once in a pinch. No wifi.. had BT but it was too painful to muck about with. USB plug in and done! Et Voila! Fixed.

        • Hey Stewballs, as said appreciate any advice. Had no idea the Bluetooth would be a pain so thanks for the info.. Just to reiterate from what you are saying if I had a say an SE Xperia Arc (waiting for mine from UK) and it has the sim in it, I can setup wireless hotspots using WIFI AP and tether it wireless is that right?
I just don't want to use the USB cable and I am not intending it to fix any PC, just want to use the tablet real estate of 7' instead of 4.2' on the SE Arc as a mobile fone modem.
I know the tab can accept my SIM directly but if a call comes in then I dont wanna look like a dork holding the Tab on my ear lol, hence do not want to put the sim in the Tab, hope it makes sense?

        • @Shopaholic32, sorry I'm not sure of the capabilities of the SE units as far as WiFi AP goes, but if it's as easy as with the Galaxy then you just turn it on at the device & it broadcasts a secure SSID just like any other WiFi router. I nearly fell over when I saw how easy it was, knowing all the hoops I've had to jump thru in the past to BT tether other phones! ;)

Just remember, there's a bit of a difference between 'tethering' and simple 'pairing', and it sounds like you might just want to do the latter, just pair your BT headset with the tablet/phone & use it to make & receive calls coz yeah, holding a 7" tablet up to your head as a phone would look very Monty-Python-esque! Lol! :)

        • +2

if the SE arc runs froyo it will have an app called wifi hotspot, you open that choose a network name and password, then you would use the tab to connect to it as if it were a usual wifi hotspot. No need for bluetooth or usb cables as SB pointed out.

        • +1

AWESOME!! Thanks for the wealth of information people.
Boy these forums are making me a poor man too much impulse spending, bought 3 of the Tabs but heck still have not seen any of the "dispatch email" and I bought on Friday, do not know how these queue system works with Telstra.
BTW the SE Arc is one of the new range of phones coming to Australia, available now in Europe and it runs on Latest Android Software Gingerbread, apparently Very smooth, currently rated No1 in GSM Arena by users….at least until the release of Galaxy S2 in next month
LOL, we could all be looking at steep rice drop like this one, so if anyone is after the old Galaxy S1, so be warned, hold your horses!

  • It's strange that other sellers completely silent about Telstra's slash price. DSE, JB, BL, HN are still having the ticket price at $500+

    • cuz most of then are not selling telstra stock. they are probably selling optus or voda stock.

    • JB's price is $360 though and I really don't understand how no one is following Telstra either.

    • I think it is because this deal has not got enough exposure. If only this deal (either ozb or the telstra page) comes up on the first page when people type "samsung galaxy tab" in Google..

    • Maybe people (walk ins) are still buying and they can tell ppl that inquire about this price that's it's an online scam.
They (HN, BL, DSE etc) may have joined forces on this so they can all keep selling at higher price.

  • Just got an email saying that my order has been dispatched

    • Same here… all good!

      • When did you guyz order…

    • when you placed your order?

      • I placed my order just before 6PM Friday. Received the status update e-mail saying the order has been dispatched.

Another mate placed a order few minutes after me… also received the e-mail (actually, it was him who informed me he's got an e-mail from Telstra).

    • when you placed your order?

      • lol….we posted at same time… jaja

        • Mine was ordered on Friday night.

    • ordered friday 5:30pm

  • +2

Went into hardly normal and asked if they had any galaxy tabs left. he said one. I asked for his best price and he said he would not be able to match the Telstra offer. I said $500+ is too expensive and he tried to tell me they were still selling like hot cakes. yeah right.

I'm tossing on this one. Do I wait for the tablet with the honeycomb operating system or is this froyo system good enough?

    • +2

Computer electronics works like this - if you need it buy it. If not don't. You can wait forever for the next big system/hardware update, the next price drop, the next whatever…. This as it stands is a great deal and even if you get bored of it in a month or so you can just sell it on. Tab as it stands right now is a decent piece of kit. Lock it in! BUY NOW!

      • Computer electronics works like this - if you need it buy it. If not don't.

        +∞

If Socrates, Bodhi & Confucious were around now I reckon they'd offer pretty much the same sage advice! ;)

FWIW, I want one of these, but I don't need it, so I'm not gonna buy one; despite significant temptation, coz it's a sweet deal! :)

    • Go visit telstra/jb hifi and play with the tab. If u like froyo, buy it, otherwise wait until honeycomb arrives. The interface should be very similar to Samsung Galaxy S.

I want it but I don't need it, so I'll be waiting for honeycomb/future desserts or ipad*.

    • +1 for hardly normal =))

  • i also received confirmation of delivery this morning..ordered last night and confirmed this morning sooooo quick :)

    • that's quick, I placed order on Sat night and haven't had any delivery confirmation.

  • +2

Managed to get the 900mhz one for $360 from Harvey Norman. Let's hope it does not drop below that or I'll have to go back and use their price guarantee.

Pathetic service from Telstra. Ordered mine on Sat morning to pick up in George St store. Just called them and after 15 minutes on hold waiting on her to check, she said "your order is still pending and it will take 3 - 5 business days". I said how come you already processed the orders that were placed after me before mine, and she just repeated that it will take 3 - 5 business days and that I should just keep waiting.

    • -5

What more do you expect from monkeys?

      • +7

I dont think this is a fair description of the effort of our staff, honestly.
        Gerd

        • +1

          Hi Gerd,
Had a real tough task getting through to Telstra trying to explain that I needed to authorise my wife to collect the item on my behalf. For a task that should have taken 5 min, I was transferred from user to user, and finally, after around 80 minutes, after I requested to lodge a complaint, things seemed to have been resolved. (To their credit, I do not have any other current Telstra account, but I did provide the order reference number). I was told (promised) that someone would call back later today to confirm.

No one called up and that was again very unprofessional. I have the call id, and the complete call was recorded.
          Frankly, the service was appalling.
Hope it gets better in the future,
          Thanks,
          Varun

        • +1

Gerd, whilst I agree that Fincky's comment was a little over the top, I've had some pretty damn poor service from Telstra Customer Service phone staff myself recently; not on this deal, but other matters; so I can kinda see where s/he's coming from!

My experience was much like varun's, only 1 in 4 was not blatantly rude or arrogant, I got ignored or was given the run around, I was lied to & was effectively called a liar myself when quoting what another staff member had told me (which should have been on record), was made promises that were never kept, and finally nobody would call me back! The level of service never even made it up as high as merely appalling!

In short, if your staff wanna be treated like professionals, they should bloody well start acting that way!!!

        • +1

Well, after my comment yesterday, I have logged in especially to let you know that the whole transaction went off without any issue- and I received the item before 8:00 AM in the morning!
Absolutely astounding! Very happy. A bit sad that I had the conversation with Telstra call centre, because the online product purchasing experience was first class! Good job Telstra.

  • Caved in and ordered it online.

    • I just caved in also after days of ummming and arrring

  • a friend ordered online last night (sunday night), chose pickup at store, and few secs ago just receive email he can collect the tab at telstra 400 george st sydney cbd

    • +1

That's so lame from Telstra, do they start from the most recent e-mails first? Lol, that some customer service! Imagine going into their shop and they start serving first the customer who joined the queue last.

      • I don't think so. I ordered mine early Friday evening and I got an email this afternoon notifying me that my order had left the warehouse today.

      • maybe that 400 george st store has alot of stock and not many people choose pick up from there, so the next day, they just allocate one for my friend. who knows…
if someone want to try tonight, buy it, choose pickup and select 400 george st syd cbd.

        • I asked the George St store on Saturday and they said that orders just turn up and get locked in a safe upstairs, until you present the ID. They are acting as a holder only, they are not selling their stock

        • Well, I did order mine for pick up from 400 George St on Sat morning, but still no e-mail whatsoever and my order is still "pending" and yet to be processed at all :(

        • Where do you check the status of your order?

  • I brought this and forgot to buy $2 sim from them to push up the price over $300.

I'm going overseas. Anyone is kind enough to email their invoice to me so I can't the GST back?

    Please help me!!!

    • Call Telstra and see if they can add a $2 SIM to your order.

      • Tried… too late :(:(:(

        • Just buy the sim separately as a new order. I think they may accept several invoices from the same store.

  • Congratulations to the new kid on the block, zooming past 300 ticks & nearing 10,000 clicks. Tel, you could go far! :)

  • Ordered mine at 4:30 friday got the confirmation email straight away but still nothing about delivery im in adelaide

  • Ordered 5.30Pm Friday still no news on confirmation, ordered under company name wondering if that is the reason for delay?

    • I ordered 3:30pm friday, got the update email saying it's dispatched today.

  • Ordered mine 6:30PM Friday, got the confirmation email saying it's dispatched 3PM today. Fingers crossed it will arrive before Easter.

  • Do they have unlimited stock? Still available for sale.
I thought this is selling like hot cake.

    • Not unlimited, and we've had a good response. Hard to say how long it'll last, though.
      Gerd

      • Hi Gerd,

Can units purchased online be returned to a physical store for refund?

  • -1

So tired of this BS from telstra.

I ordered on Friday evening thinking i could pick up from the store. I didnt see anything about the 2-3 days for store pickup so thought i could get it sooner.

I call all day to Telstra miranda, no one picks up. I call morning sunday still no one picked up. Went to the store the sales people were very bad. They said you ordered online ring them in a very snide tone.

Had enough rang up to cancel 3 different departments, 30 mins no one picked up i gave up. Emailed the rep here.

    • It should arrive tomorrow, you'll get an email saying your orders available to be picked up.
Dont bother about calling stores. They usually dont pick up, dont reply to the message you leave or you will be directed to customer care.
If your order is being dispatched/delivered drop your order ref into AAE's track and trace tool it should tell if its on its way or not. Make sure the AAE consignment is a recent one because you are searching by a reference number that is not unique in AAE's systems, they track by consignment numbers. Vendors/senders can specify whatever customer reference they want so you might come back with someone else's delivery and not your Telstrs Shop Online order.

      • Typed my order ref no into aae and it comes up advanced delivery notice received

  • A Telstra rep on Whirlpool Forums has just confirmed Telsra stores (company owned) will be selling these at $299.
    See: http://whrl.pl/RcIMMN

    • -1

you sure he's a rep, cause he doesn't have 'ISP Representative'

      • +1

I've read many of his posts in the past and he is an employee of Telstra in some capacity. Anyway, I'll be at the Knox store at 9am tomorrow so I'll find out first hand whats the go with the pricing.

        • I asked a Telstra shop today how much they were for and said $298 but they didn't have stock.

        • lol so much for online exclusive :D

  • -1

Dollar cheaper then online? Oh thats it telstra you suck!

    • Not uncommon practice. BigW does it all the times.

  • +1

yeah but after we have all bought it online! and lots still have not been dispatched.

  • +1

Looks like we are the guinea pigs, first come last to get served and lol $1 more expensive
Rep,I am happy if they just delivered them ASAP, otherwise I might just have to cancel order and pick up from George St tired of waiting and waiting for email since Friday………

  • +1

Mine is in transit now with AAE :):)

    • sorry dumb question, but I can't find a way to track my order
(Got my track number but not sure of the process)

      • +2

Visit https://trackandtrace.aae.com.au/123456 but replace 123456 with your Telstra order number.

        • Thanks Heaps

        • Works also for pick up from store orders. Thanks.

Just wondering when Telstra will send me the e-mail.

        • It didnt work on my order number as it is dated on 08 march 2011

Still no email from telstra on delivery

  • mine arrived at 9.30 am today :D

    • nice, enjoy :)

      ed: wait.. it's not 9:30 yet o_O

      :P

      • just signed it :D

    • Same mine arrived earlier then I expected!

  • I ordered on on Sunday and received confirmation it could be picked up from the store in 2-3 days. Looks like an impressive unit. Even more so now that Apple is suing Samsung saying the Galaxy Tab has copied their iPad :) Article: http://www.computerworld.com.au/article/383716/apple_sues_sa…

    • Oh wow, the things apple will do huh?

      • +1

Apple… suing. Hahaha. Take a look at my Macbook Pro laptop. It's broken down 2 times since 2008. The batteries don't work, and it makes a deafening hissing noise. What a joke Apple is.
