Electricity Provider Recommendations - NSW

Hello everyone!

Have always been with Energy Australia but keen to see what people can recommend.

There all these comparison sites but not too keen for a call back as I do not want unsolicited calls.

Can you please recommend a cheapish provider?

Thanks in advance.

Use this government website. Everybody's usage is different, this will give you unbiased view.

    • Thank you - same provider is offering me a discounted rate giving me a savings of $300 per annum via direct debit.

    • Www.energymadeeasy.gov.au do you trust they have the correct algorithms? I have tried this site many a time and always found cheaper else where. Use with caution

NSW Government has a new site.: energyswitch.service.nsw.gov.au

    • but must upload a bill. Can't use as a Calculator for hypothetical usage.

I can tell you who to avoid.. do NOT go with Amaysim. Terrible customer service and their charges are almost double what Energy Australia was charging me. But they suckered me in with a pay on time discount of 27% and 17.5¢ solar FIT. Problem is that their off peak price was double what EA was, so this nullified the extra I was getting on my FIT.

And the main thing to be careful of was their “pay on time” discount. I was told again and again that it was a discount. Got my first bill and no discount listed. How Amaysim do it is as a credit towards your next bill. If you churn out, you lose the credit on your account. I had to fight for over 4 days and 3 hours worth of phone calls to get them to allow me to pay the discounted pay on time rate.

Avoid at all costs. They pay money to compare websites to push their listings to the top. Lots of hidden little gems in their contract I have since found out.

  • Origin have 20c/kWh FIT for solar (25c/kWh if you purchase a system from them) and we currently buy @ 27c/kWh 24x7. Worth a look.

I wouldn't call them "cheapish" (as in a lot of people regard them as $$$)
but a casual search hasn't revealed a whole bunch of options that are less than 27c.

If you don't have solar, or are prepared to buy 1 panel from them, then the 25c FIT is the best I have found so far (happy to be corrected).
The 2c/kWh difference - "energy grid battery charge" - was the tipping point for me (last time I did this exercise, 7.7c was the best FIT I found).

  • Anyone can review Alinta or Dodo? You can get $110 cashback through Cashrewards 'Compare Energy & Gas' for signing up. Just missed out on the $150 sign up bonus at AGL :(

  • Also, agree with kelpi3, I've always found cheaper offers than either state or federal govt websites. They don't take sign up bonuses into account for a start, and there is outdated info on them.
