Phillips One Blade, Replacement Wear Indicator

Bought from an Amazon deal posted here late November, Phillips One Blade, delivered 28 Nov 2018.
I've been using it semi regularly since then, I don't need to be clean shaven every day, I don't work in a place where I need to be. So I guess, maybe two times a week, maximum 3.
First time I used the Phillips One blade, loved it. Wished I had got the Pro version after my first shave, but I wanted to try it first, since I'd never seen one in person.
Move on from 28 Nov, to 7 January and last night's shave left me stubbly, but also with many long hairs it just didn't cut, which were mainly on my neck. I tried going up and down the neck, also tried handle up/handle down. Eventually cut these longer hairs bit didn't do much on the stubbly parts at all.
Then I noticed the wear indicator on the blade was almost fully green.
I'd been, in the past, blaming the lack of decent shaves with various foil and tri head shavers, Phillips/Braun etc, on crap overpriced shavers…
But, maybe it's just me and the hair strength blunts these shavers, well before their time?
What are some others, reading on the forum here, the usable time on the Philips OneBlade blades??
Apart from convenience of the one blade closeness, if I'm barely getting just over a month on the blades, it'll end up costing me a fortune very quickly.

    • For best shaving experience. Based on full 2 shaves on face per week. Actual results may vary.

They have a clause. You may have facial hair of a Gorilla, hence it is lasting only 6 weeks.

    • +1

Easy tiger. It's only the beard, not the silver back too.

  • The oneblade doesn't have a catchment area to put cut hair, so it could be getting stuck, try ejecting the blade and giving the shaver a quick brush and reinsert the blade to see if that helps.

Also yeah, blades are pretty weak in general, so you "have" buy more than 1-2 a year. "Planned Obsolescence" is standard practice, which is why you get random pushbacks with people going back to single blade, double blade, safety blade, etc type razors with badger brushes and shaving cream based on their grandparents days.

Best choice, find a good shaver that you like and get a few blades whenever they go on sale.

    • I tend to always wash/rinse the one blade after each shave, which may or may not help the 'blunting' of the blades.
I'll try the 'tap and clean' midway, as suggested.
I do enjoy having a close smooth shave without wet shaving and it's definitely quicker than my foil shaver. I definitely like the one blade.
I'm going to struggle to get half of the suggested 4 months per blade.
I'm still using the supplied blade in the pack, I presume theres only genuine and no fakes, but admits the supplied blade, it's definitely genuine.

  • Had no idea the OneBlade had a wear indicator on it. The plastic hinge always broke before I could wear it out. Definitely like the unit and close cut it offers but it's simply not durable.

    • Yes, that's definitely the weak part. I got a case to put it in, when packing it, I could see something breaking easily.

  • If anyone needs blade, the three pack is historically low prices on Amazon US. Equates to $12.50/blade.

  • These are rubbish. Bought the pro and the blade that cam with it lasted about 4 shaves. Granted I use it to shave my head, but 1 head shave would equate to what, 2-3 face shaves. Far cry from 2 shaves per week 4 months. Someone with justin bieber facial hair may get that long out of one.

  • I bought OneBlade QP2520/30 in MAY 2021.

Battery life seems quite short for many months now, is this expected wear? Any recourse
