Coffee Group Buys in Melbourne?

Hi all,

I was considering the idea of forming a group of ozbargainers in Melbounre to purchase nice coffee beans in wholesale quantities as a group.

I'd imagine all of the roasters would offer reduced prices for substantially larger quantities (as they do with cafes), and it could save us all some money on buying coffee.

I saw a few people trying to do similar with the ST. ALi 2KG for $49 Black Friday deal

What are your thoughts? Is this viable? Would people be interested?

They may require you to purchase a set amount on an regular basis

    • And how are you going to distribute them? You will now be the pack horse that sends them - effectively creating a middleman situation with the added risk of holding on to a perishable. Then dealing with returns… and flighty members… and ongoing demands from one member who really wants one particular blend but doesn't want to pay extra for it.

  • Reverence Coffee, great local roaster in Melbourne.

  • Oh, crowd funding coffee beans. Cool idea. Dibs on the mobile app.

  • Sorry, but I think that coffee is more of a personal taste item (some people like different coffee characteristics, there are a multitude of different brewing methods to consider, etc.) so one roast might not be liked by all.
The more generic blend the roast becomes, to satisfy the more generic tastes, the more highlight characteristics are reduced from the blend.
