Appetizer - Thai Restaurant Scoopon

Wondering if anyone on ozbargain also got this?

When i say We i mean me and my girlfriend:)

We bought 2. Tried to make a booking lately, they only accept SMS bookings, no phone calls or otherwise, so fine. But when we tried to book for a week in advanced, they said they were booked out. We asked when would they be available, we'll go any night (we work almost right next door), we were told next MONTH, that is 3 weeks from time of SMS.

Any other experiences?

Also, I think scoopon should really be more firm in all T&C with their business, telling us to book in 3 weeks in advance is a bit much.

I'd also note, i walk past quite often, they are not always full, infact, rarely are they packed out that they can't seat another 2 people.

  • Have you considered dropping in and asking them if they can seat you during the times the are not busy? They might let you slip in. That doesn't help all of the other people who don't work close by. I guess maybe book a month out.

I saw a Chinese restaurant in Melbourne on deals.com.au had a special incentive for people booking during their non-peak nights. I really think that is an incentive that more restaurants should consider, although that wouldn't help you as you are still feeling put out.

Try getting a booking without the scoopon then when you arrive, say you have a scoopon voucher

  • yea, if you urban spoon the place, there is someone who did that. I might grab a copy and paste

  • Here it is. I would feel uncomfortable doing that, i wonder if scoopon would consider a refund.

    From urban spoon:

The way Appetizer Thai treat their Scoopon customer is unacceptable. They won't answer their phones for Scoopon booking. Then we decide to take a walk, when we walked into the restaurant last night (Tuesday night) & the waiter told us that we can be seated any table as we like. But as soon as we mention that we have a scoopon, their attitudes suddenly changed & told us they've been all booked out & we have to come back another time. At my husband's insist, they gave us a table eventually & told us that we can only have it for half an hour & some other people have booked this table already. We had our dinner for 1 and half hours, the restaurant is only half occupied & still has lots of tables available. Obviously they are lying & do not wants to accept Scoopon customer.

    • Wow, so you should ask them everything before you mention anything about a scoopon. Like asking if the tables booked in the next few hours, maybe even ask the restaurant to confirm everything stated on the scoopon before even purchasing, AND record what they say.

The restaurant is really shooting itself in the foot doing business this way. Th advertising they are buying is bad advertising. They shouldn't have done it if they were going to treat customers this way.

same with my story. never pick up the phone, 1st time I dropped in, they said u need to book within 24h before the day u want. 2nd,they said need to book 1 week b4. the 3rd they asked to book 1 month b4. last time, when I successfully booked, they changed the menu and limit it from full menu to a menu with limit 5 main courses. You should ist your ticket number in your forum post.

When you email scoopon asking for a refund, you should always include the name of the deal, the voucher numbers you are seeking a refund for and the last four numbers of your credit card that you iused to buy the voucher. IMO, you shoud also initiate a credit card charge back and tell scoopon you are doing this. Do the chargeback ASAP or it may be too late.

I would also do a complaint with fair trading against the restaurant and perhaps scoopon as well.

I have a support ticket for this coupon, i was given a menu that was not the one advertised on the deal page, and was also limited to 5 dishes between the appetizers and mains, which consequently severely limited my ability to spend the ~$130 value they advertised

    • Hi happy buy,

Can you please advise your unique ticket ID, so that we can ask our support team to review your query and provide assistance?

Our support team endeavours to respond to every email as quickly as possible, and help bring about a solution for our members.

      Kind Regards,
      Team Scoopon.

  • We booked this and used it as soon as we got the voucher and it was really good. The "problem" is that it is way too much food for 2 people if you use it all. They even had a sign on the table for scoopon customers asking not to order food if you are not going to eat it. We saw a few tables of 2 people with 3 starters and 4 main courses, where some it it hadn't even been touched. I can see how the reatsuarnt would be getting annoyed with that, although they should have thought of if before they came up with the deal

      Doggy bags?

      • Exactly!
I remember went to a Korean rest in Vic Park using Cudo voucher. Both of us couldn't finish the lot so we doggy bagged it. Albeit the extra cost, but it's only $1.50 to take the rest back~
        Worth the price!

        • I bought a voucher for a polish restaurant here in Perth and they have takeaway containers listed on the menu for 50 cents of a dollar or something. From their reviews, people are often unsettled by the large amount of food they get. The food is cheap as anyway, so it'll be interesting to see what it is like.

If you know you are ordering more than you will eat, you might want to plan on what you are going to order for takeaway. Some food saves and reheats better than others.

      • We actually did doggy bag it, but most other people we saw didn't.
I have quite a few friends that will not doggy bag anything, in fact they won't eat anything reheated.

  • I had a great deal once where we struggled eating all the food. I often wonder, can three people try meals for 2?
