i was wondering if anyone who has Optus on a $105 + plan which includes 2/4gb roaming data can tell me how they check their data usage overseas?
i recently got onto the plan and enquired with "live chat" and the representative told me that the usage will appear in the app once i start using the data overseas.
Is that true?
Also is the unlimited international talk and text to zone 1 countries = from x country to aus or does it also include local calls within those countries?

We roamed in Fiji last month (zone 1). I'm on a $105 regional plan (discounted to $75 with the harvey norman + student discounts that were available last year) that includes 6gb of roaming.
After a longwinded online chat with optus, they eventually confirmed to me that when roaming I could call both Australia as well as any other "Zone 1" country for free. At first they gave me the list of 35 countries you can call for free from Oz and it took some time to explain I was asking about making calls that originate in a Zone 1 Country while roaming.
I made some local calls to Fijian numbers and wasn't charged any extra. (If I had called from Oz, they would have been additional as Fiji is not on their list of 35 countries that you can normally call for free). I didn't try calling any other countries while I was there.
In the app I was able to see my usage under "More" —> "International roaming" —> "Estimated Usage".
I found it the app kept crashing while I was roaming and I ended up tethering my laptop and going onto their website where I was able to check my usage (it might have been a fluke that the app was crashing while I was roaming).
When I was back in Oz the "Estimate usage" link worked without crashing the app. In a week I used around 800mb, but we had wifi in our hotel so we didn't end up using nearly as much data as we could have!
I'm on the $105 plan and used the data but i was never able to see how much data was being used in country from their app. Only when i got my bill in just 4 days there somehow i used up 600mb when my usual routine is the same back in oz. My understanding regarding the calls is if you're in a Zone 1 country it's as though you're back in oz when it comes to calls/sms. I made an international call while there and it was included in my international call cap.
