[VIC] Yarra Tram Compensation for Not Meeting Targets in December 2018 - Daily Fare for Eligible Passengers

Similar to last time, don't know if this qualifies as a deal, hence posting here in the forums.

Under our agreement with Public Transport Victoria (PTV), if our monthly network performance falls below set thresholds for service reliability (98 per cent) or punctuality (79 per cent), Yarra Trams will provide compensation to eligible passengers.

Yarra Trams delivered 97.5 per cent of services in December 2018 with 81 per cent of services arriving on time. The result for delivery/reliability means that Yarra Trams has not met the performance threshold and eligible passengers may claim compensation.

Who is eligible?

Eligible passengers are those who hold a myki pass valid for 28 days or more, and who have touched on on a tram, at least 10 days of the month.

If you are eligible, you will receive a credit on your myki equivalent to 1 Daily fare.

Process to claim the compensation - needs to be done by 31 January 2019

  1. Go here: https://yarratrams.com.au/compensation-form

  2. Fill in details: name, email/postal address, myki card number.

  3. Sit back and wait for confirmation that you'll receive the compensation, which equates to one daily full fare, which I believe is $8.80.

I want to underperform at work and at my performance review I'll offer them a 3% refund.

    • Haha nice analogy - it sucks doesn't it? We might suffer more than one day of inconvenience due to Yarra Tram's poor performance, but only get one day's fare back - not through an automatic process but a manual one that they don't really publicise all that well.

  • Not sure if I touched on enough! But I will try my luck.

    Thanks OP!

    • Fingers crossed for you! I was also concerned that I didn't touch on enough in Dec, but turns out I did for about 12 days in total 😅

      • I really need to touch on in the free tram zone more often haha

      • Just went through my history. I reckon I traveled on at least 10 trams, but didn't touch on once =(

  • Excuse my ignorance, why is it only for myki pass holders?

That’s an excellent question. I don’t know the answer. If the rationale behind the requirements was to ensure that a person claiming for compo did in fact use the trams during the month in question for the stipulated minimum 10 days, then I don’t understand why a person using myki money over at least 10 days in December (who has touched on and can prove the usage) doesn’t qualify for compensation, whereas another person using a myki pass but otherwise has the same tram usage for December, does.

Hopefully someone here can provide an answer. Or perhaps there is no satisfactory answer and it is just an arbitrary rule made by Yarra Trams.

Exactly, especially when it appears that they are able to track taps via transport type (tram) by reading the following:

        Who is eligible?

Eligible passengers are those who hold a myki pass valid for 28 days or more, and who have touched on on a tram, at least 10 days of the month.

  • Can I call both?

Or tram compensation, AND train delay compensation, in a month?

I don’t see why not - the services, obligations and compensation agreements are separate from what I know. If you are a train AND tram customer, both transport services let you down and you satisfy the claim requirements then it makes sense to me that you should be compensated by the two separate services.
