    Teacher | Bonka

Title reminds me of that teacher in Washington, Mary Kay Letourneau…

  • The link for Monkey Go Happy just points to Bonka again - the correct link seems to be https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=air.com.pencil…

    • Thanks mate. Lack of sleep.

Hm. Is this a promotional post? Cos there's a ton of other free Learn Chinese apps on the Play Store with way more than 22 reviews and higher rating than 4.4. Not to mention install base.

    • Every app that goes on sale means promotion. There is no other reason for the developer to give it away.

There are rules around promoting stores/things you are associated with on ozb.

    • Whats the best free app you recommend to learn Chinese ?

      Thanks

      • Duolingo

          • @newington07: That is precisely why I have a firewall on my device that blocks all traffic to Facebook and other analytics/tracking/ad providers.

Highly recommend. It not only saves you data and battery, it also speeds things up. I find my Note 8 much more responsive after having the firewall in place.

            • @[Deactivated]: That's great. Which firewall are you using?

@newington07: I don't want to root my device, so I use net guard and paid for the rules add-on.

The app is opensource, so you can build it from source and have all the features (plus no ads) for free. But unless you're an Android dev and have all the stuff setup, etc. You'll be mucking around for an hour or 2 to get it up and running. I figured, that time spent mucking around is worth more than paying the $6 the guy is asking for. And he deserves to be paid for his work.

If you do decide to get net guard. The guy has a nice nifty guide in the net guard github repo detailing how you can use net guard to block ads. There's a few steps. But it's one of those set and forget things.

20 days basic Chinese? They are definitely using the word basic in its broadest sense.
