Last Pay Processing

Hi there, I worked for an employer in Australia for a bit less than two years (first job in Australia) and recently left. Due to the nature of my departure, I was put on gardening leave. However, because of that I sadly had all kinds of dramas and corrections with my last two pays. Between this and them processing the leave, I think they did it incorrectly though the company is claiming all is in order.

Wondering whether there is anyone on this forum to whom I could show the payslips and my bank pay who could help me out. I would greatly appreciate it!

Are you in a union? If so, they would probably help you out. Or is there a work colleague that might help you out? I personally wouldn't be giving my persoanl details ie payslips etc to a stranger on ozbargain even though think people on ozbargain are great. Also, would be difficult as is relying on you giving correct info ie employer might say worked different hrs or days. Otherwise, doubt anyone else would do this without a cost involved. But might end up being there word against yours.

Left the job or left Australia ?

    What is gardening leave?

Can you outline the dramas related to your pay? Eg wrong rate per hour, too much tax deducted etc

Never heard of it until this post.

Google says "an employee's suspension from work on full pay for the duration of a notice period, typically to prevent them from having any further influence on the organization or from accessing confidential information."

Pretty common for senior white collar employees.
If you are sales guy or similar working on a deal, your ex-employer doesn't want you starting on Monday for the opposition, but also doesn't want you in the office seeing what the approach is etc.

    • I think Garden leave is paid leave due to issues at work. where you don’t work but cant work else where.

        What a bargain.

If you have been put on gardening leave, I would assume that they would just be paying you your ordinary hours/wage (correct?).

At actual end date they would have processed all your additional benefits (severance, annual leave and final months pay) - what this usually does (trips up most people as they don’t realise this) - is due the larger payout, this may place you in the next tax bracket and you likely have just had your salary incur a higher withholding. When you go to process your tax at the end of the year, you’ll get it back (should you not have worked anywhere else for the remainder of the financial year).

This is performed due to the fact that if you are then continuing on working elsewhere, an appropriate level of withholding is remitted to the ATO for the year, and will minimise any surprise tax payable bills on your end.

  • Does gardening leave mean you were fired?

  • lol, I have only heard of 'gardening leave' in the context of CBAs most recent annual report (and the executives that left).

I assume t has something to do with executives, and getting paid 6 months for sitting on their ass (all the BS written into their contracts to rip of shareholders). Similar to 'golden handshakes' (leaving with a few million in bonus for doing nothing)

I sure could, though the amount I charge might be more than you are owed. Though you can please your case on why you need charity?

As stated above, your pay slips alone might not be enough info and it could take quite some time to figure out. The company is legally required to provide you with your employment records such as your annual leave records. Try requesting your leave records for a start. Compare that your legal entitlement.

One of CBA past execs was Annabel Spring, but I don't think this is them, because the time period doesn't match.

      • If you can send one CBA exec on Gardening Leave, why not send them all… lol

You're not seriously expecting someone here go through your paperwork for free are you?

    • I will.

OP please check net amount shown on Payslip and compare that to deposit shown on bank statement. If they agree, your pay is correct. If not, something is wrong.

      • But OP wants you to check it!
