Maybe Lily - Smart Speaker That Teaches Chinese

What are your thoughts on this Indiegogo project? Speak in English, it replies in Chinese. Linked to an app that also teaches Chinese. Claims to support other languages in the future.

I'm interested in the concept but don't know whether they are genuine in delivering a product (or is it a scam?)

Plus I wouldn't buy it if I knew that other smart speaker manufacturers were to catch up in capability in the next year or two.

  • I could totally see other places at least adding parts of the feature, infact I wouldn't be surprised if theres and app or similar you can grab now.

I really like the idea of this, but I think thats the issue, it has so much good ideas that could become of it, but I can almost see it becoming this interesting device that does okay with basic natural language processing, but I don't see it doing any real or proper conversations unless its already scripted (hell even my google home does "okay" in just understanding basic language ).

So I kind of feel like it comes down to the "teaching" aspect, I like some of the ideas they have but I look at this similar to duolingo or babbel but with more issue. I can see myself trying it a few times, running a few of the app games they have and then forgetting like I do with other apps.

I'd probably be super interested if it had a full language learning kit (like lectures like pimsleur does) and then you can interact with it, which would be fun, but again can't see why you wouldn't go for a phone instead of a dedicated device.

Still though I really like the idea and would love to be wrong, complaints aside I hope it does well.
