Turns out Flashing Your GoPro Hero (2018) Can Do More than Give You Identical Software to The Hero 5 Black

So I accidentally cracked the touchscreen of my 2018 Hero about a month after getting it. Oh well I thought. Then my dumbass took it into the ocean… completely broken.

Contacted GoPro and they said something like that isn't usually under warranty but because it was so new they let me send it back to be replaced anyway.

I had flashed mine to the Hero 5 Black like everyone was doing and thought I was screwed as soon as they analysed the device.

Just got the replacement back and they have actually sent me a brand new Hero 5 Black body instead of the Hero (2018).

Amazing.

      Why not? Great product, quality, support, limitless accessory range and mobile apps. OP got lucky with replacement.

        I agree. Every interaction so far with them has been phenomenal and the camera itself is amazing.

    Lol. I've nothing against this because you didn't actually try to trick them at all, but this seeeeeeeems a little dodgy. As in the, I would be scared of bad karma for a bit haha.

        Yeah, I often have bad things happen to me. That way I know "karma owes me" and I can rest easy at night.

          But I laugh at racist jokes (of all ethnicities and cultures, mine not withstanding)…

          So I'm still waiting for that lightning bolt.

    The hardware is identical so this is not surprising.
    Only difference is firmware.

    But gopro do have a descent customer service so not shocking to hear something like this occuring
