  • Pretty good price considering they go for around $20 a piece regularly. I have some of the groovelock pliers, and the diagonal cutters and both are great quality tools for the price even at RRP.

I bought a set of these around 5 years ago, which were different as they didn't have the crescent wrench, and were $50, but they've been super handy. I've used all of the tools at least a few times, but I've found the multi-grips to be some of the most useful. If I were to go for another pair of crescent wrenches I'd go with some of the blue handled thin ones, but I can't remember the name, as they're the ones that my Pop uses as a plumber, versus the shitty Trojan ones I've got, which suck. Still, for the money I'd say this would definitely be a handy tool for a lot of folks.

I was going to say. I have the same set back then for $49 actually and found the combo to be perfect.
This one seems to have overlapping pliers i.e. 3 GrooveLock Pliers.

The two I use most from that that deal and are actually Vice Grips.

      • Yeah, I goofed, I did mean the vice grips. Recently I had to use the long nose grips on the safety pin of a mitre saw to stop it from holding the saw closed when I pushed it down and made a cut. The larger ones I’ve used heaps for irrigation.

Snap.. for $50 was excellent value and all have been used a lot since then.

      • The only issue I have, and it’s not really an issue to be honest, is that the elastic straps have gotten stretched out and don’t hold the belt together anymore, I mean they still wrap around it but it’s loose. Still, all the same, it’s a great set and elastic will always give eventually anyway.

@Jawanzar "blue handled thin ones" You Channellocks?

      • No, not the channel locks, at least I don’t think so, but man those are decent tools, there’s even an episode of how it’s made where they go through the factory, or at least the process of making them in the states.

Not a pair of Vice Grips to be seen.

    • Yeah that’s weird. Surely Irwin knows what vice grips are

VISE-GRIP is an Irwin brand. Not necessarily a description of the tool.

  • Are those Renovator Better Grip wrenches any good? TV ad is convincing.

    • They do work but you can have trouble fitting them in tight spaces.
The TV ad doesn't show this of course.
I know for a fact that these groovelock pliers (multigrips) are garbage, they slip off the grooves when squeezing tight and bust your knuckles.
The metal on the sides of the grooves just breaks off.
I can't say what the rest of the set is like but i've been working with tools my whole life and I reckon Irwin tools have turned to crap recently, they used to be good.

What tools should we buy if we are slowly building a box?

        • Kincrome aren't bad value for money.

  • Apparently some of the Irwin range of pliers are rebranded NWS tools so they are made in Germany.
