Anyone Received Their TYR Goggles Yet?

Was looking through some old post and came across this one : http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/35780
which then reminded me that I still havent received my goggles yet! That offer was posted early December 2010 !!

Anyone got theirs yet? Or did they make a fake promo to collect personal data…for free?

  • Nope

Or did they make a fake promo to collect personal data…for free?

    more likely ozbargain'd

TYR is a relatively known company in goggles

    • I wouldn't be surprised if they were ozbargained, but if it was, Id expect/hope at least a bunch of people here got theirs, and maybe reply here to kill the suspicion!
If no one here got theirs…

I was actually looking forward to those goggles.

  • never got it!

come to think of it i'm still waiting for the free snore less thing.
sign up twice and nothing still.

  • nup and I like TYR stuff. I got the manchew for the dog recently so I doubt this will be coming anytime soon.

  • I didn't get mine either

  • NOPE! I say we all bombard them with emails. I dont like applying for things and not receiving it..

I emailed em heres a reply..

We ran the promotion in order to build a genuine data base of consumers who visit our site and are genuinely interested in our swimwear products for direct mail purposes however, within 24 hours of the promotion being launched, a third party posted a link to our promotion on a website called OZ Bargains. OZ Bargains prides itself on finding freebies on the web for the general public. Next to the link on their site they stated that TYR were giving away free goggles, you didn’t have to do anything but sign up to the mailing list in order to receive the freebie, which was true. However they encouraged people to sign up with a real postal address in order to receive the free goggles but give a false email address & phone number to avoid receiving any promotional materials or mail outs from the company in the future.

Due to the OZ Bargains publicity we had over 10 000 hits to the website with most people signing up, which in turn caused our website to crash and we were subsequently unable to retrieve any of the data or details of the people who had signed up. We were unable to retain any personal details or information from the entries and as a result we will not be sending out any free goggles.

    • Indeed they got Ozbargained.

    • Huh? Since when would an overloaded server render the details already stored in a database irretrievable?

Being in IT doesn't make me an expert on all things IT, but I'm calling bullsh*t on that.

Pity, as a swimmer I'm a TYR customer too.

    • Not good publicity at all! Will not buy their brand out of principle!

    • What's the email address or contact information you used? We should bombard them again for their bullsh*t.

    • However they encouraged people to sign up with a real postal address in order to receive the free goggles but give a false email address & phone number to avoid receiving any promotional materials or mail outs from the company in the future.

Perhaps to increase the chances of getting freebies from these promotions in the future, no one, including the OP should mention about using fake details, keep this to ourselves.

I wonder if the number of these type of promotions will decrease with time, as OzB becomes more publicised, companies become more aware of these type of situations. Consequently, I'd assume they would rather have less publicity (via promotions like this), than to disappoint potential customers.

Thanks for emailing them btw Nubzy (+)1 for yoo
