AliExpress Item Not Arrived with 24 Hours Left. Extend Time, or Dispute?

I purchased an item on Aliexpress, it hasn't arrived, and there's only 24 hours of buyer protection left. I checked the seller had a large amount of positive feedback, and they've sold many of the item before. So instead of raising a dispute, I just clicked: "Extend Buyer Protection", requesting another 14 days.

A pop up window then states:

"Normally within 2 business days, the seller will decide whether to extend Purchase Protection. If it has been extended, you will receive an email notification. If Purchase Protection has not been extended, please open a dispute in a timely manner."

What happens if the seller doesn't agree to my request for a time extension within the next 24 hours? Will Aliexpress automatically release the seller's payment? Should I raise a dispute anyway, just before the time runs out?

    Extend it.

    • Yeah, I've done that… But if the seller doesn't agree to the extension before the time runs out, won't they automatically get paid?

      • Sorry, what I mean is, I've requested an extension - but they have to agree to it. What happens if they don't agree to it before the time runs out?

        • AE will issue a refund and the seller may lose the item when it eventually turns up.

  • Raise a dispute - you can always close this if the seller extends

    • If you close a dispute, doesn't that mean you can't open it again later? (Thieves on there always ask you to close a dispute, promising they'll refund or resend - so then they get paid - but they send/return nothing because the dispute is now closed.)

  • Dispute. A certain time has been allocated by the seller/Aliexpress by which you would expect the item to arrive. As the item has not arrived and you have not been informed of any delays, it would seem reasonable to raise a dispute.

Yeah, tracking shows it made it onto a plane out of China, then nothing for weeks. Never landed here. Any planes go into the ocean lately? :-|

If Purchase Protection has not been extended, please open a dispute in a timely manner.

Raise a dispute before your current Buyer Protection runs out, unless it's extended.

Re: This, and the comment above… I'll dispute it tomorrow morning if they haven't agreed to the extension.

  • I only got one of my items today on the final day of protection.

  • I would dispute it.

  • send them a message. I've always had great communication with sellers.

  • I would dispute it. 24 hours is too short of a window for a time extension to be made in time.

    • Yes, annoying… because AE used to send an email warning your time to receive was about to expire. But I didn't receive that warning. Maybe they stopped doing it.

  • A while back, I also ordered something from Aliexpress that never arrived. I messaged the seller and he extended the waiting period and asked me to wait for 2 more weeks. I knew the item was lost at this point, because things usually arrive in 2 to 3 weeks. A few days before the end of the extended period, I messaged the seller again and he agreed to resend the item and extend the waiting period again. The item arrived when it was posted the second time, so the first attempt was most likely lost in the post or stolen (if it was delivered to the wrong house). In my case, the value of the item wasn't too much, around $8.

  • Thanks all. I think it was 24 hours at about 2pm. So I'll raise a dispute tomorrow morning if the seller hasn't agreed to an extension by then.

  • Sounds like you've made a decision, but yeah - dispute it.

I ordered a $250 phone that never turned up, disputed it and was refunded in no time at all. The system works!

    • I just checked my email and the seller agreed to extend 14 days. I doubt it's going turn up though. Tracking shows it left China on a plane weeks ago, but then never touched down in Australia.

Funny how they refund so easily, but you have to fight for refunds. I bought what was advertised as a 'gel cushioned mouse pad' only to find it had soft yellow/white foam inside. Laying your wrist on it felt like there was nothing in there - perfectly flat.

I took a few photos including a side view showing a weight on it completely flattened the foam to the same level as the rest of the pad (gel would bulge out the sides). Aliexpress refused the refund - partial refund only. But it was dishonest, and, the pad was useless because he also folded it in half to squeeze it into a tiny bag, making a permanent crease.

They gave a refund after I showed a video of the crease and I immediately put it in the bin. I nearly lost the money because I figured the lie about having gel inside was the more important issue - and once you upload photos, you can't upload more. So if there wasn't a video upload option too, I would have lost the money.

Guess which word he removed from his listing immediately after I received a refund.
