Best Value / Bang for Buck Jewellery Store?

Hey guys,

I keep hearing mixed reports on this, What are the best value jewellery stores? The online ones like blue nile or the retail stores that have all sorts of big sales like Goldmark, Angus and Coote, Prouds etc.

Best Value / Bang for Buck Jewellery Store

I hope you realise that 'Best Value' and 'Jewellery Store' are mutually exclusive…

  • Working in a jeweller I found the industry like this

Bottom tier- goldmark, prouds, Angus and coote. Often do 50% store wide (good for gold) . Never stock diamonds for than a J/K
Middle- wallace bishop, Michael hill. Often keep diamonds G/H
    Top- boutique stores

    I think for:
gold- buy from anywhere because you can't fake carat
White gold- somewhere with a lifetime care plan for plating
Diamond- middle to top tier for clarity, cut, colour diamonds

    My 2c

If you want quality then don't bother with the chain jewellers. Either order online or visit an independent/wholesaler.

If you want cheap and nasty then the mall chain jewellers are fine when on sale or bargaining hard.

  • Depends on the person you want to bang as to how much bucks you spend

  • Mene is pretty good as they charge a transparent markup over the gold spot price and everything is 24K gold (they also have platinum)

    e.g. A 10g gold band for ~$530 USD

Shipping is $40 USD to Australia and arrives Fedex under a week usually.

    • Looks like postage is USD75 now. Did you need to pay customs duty and GST on the purchase?

  • I wasnt necessarily looking for quality, its more just gifts for people who arent super close to me at least not yet :). I was only hoping to spend like 100-200$ max.

You're effectively in the "costume jewellery" market. Just buy on what looks good because the quality and quantity of the precious materials included will be at the lower end.

Shiels if you look at their online sales. You can get crazy specials - like sterling silver 55mm necklace for $6.
