Why Does The OzBargain Blog Exist?

Just noticed that there is an ozbargain blog however the last post was from August 2018 and I can't see much purpose for it over the regular site update topics in this forum.

What do you all think?

  • Is OZB made with Wordpress or similar Content Management System? Wordpress started as a blogging platform and the blog is built into every Wordpress site, even if you don't use the blog it's always there and you have to go through some hoops to disable all the blog pages from public view.

OzBargain started as a blog where Scotty used to post all the bargains himself. Eventually he made OzBargain so that people can submit their own bargains instead of people sending deals to him to post a blog post.

That doesn't leave much use for the OzBargain blog however I still use it for the yearly Zeitgeist as it's a fairly data and graphic heavy post and works a little bit better than the forums. Basically blog posts take a lot more effort/time with little community engagement whereas using Facebook and Instagram is way quicker and creates lots more interaction.

You do have a point though. If there aren't regular posts then probably not useful to have a link to it.

Maybe that can be a wiki series - kind of like a yearbook.

OzBargain blog started its life in 2005 (that's 14 years ago) and it wasn't even called ozbargain blog when it was first existed. These days who has time to read long form blog posts? Nor do I have time to write it. However I am still keeping it around as an archive. Where else can we keep a piece of history when I soft launched OzBargain?

I am still using that Dell UltraSharp 1905 as my secondary monitor (next to an LG 34")

Incredible. Surprised something so small hasn't driven you crazy by now. You should try an ultrawide 😉

@Clear: The main monitor, an LG 34", is a 1440P ultra wide. The Dell 19" sits nicely next to it (height-wise) making the whole setup even wider :) I am more surprised how durable those ultrasharp's are. Cost a fortune back in 2005.

@scotty: Okay now that is impressive! I think most monitors from back then are indestructible. I have a combination of Compaq and Dell in server cabinets all over and they've lasted forever.
