Netflix Documentary - The Ultimate Guide to Penny Pinching

A quick search of the forums didn't produce any threads on this little doco on Netflix, surprisingly.

Amused me how much it made me think of OzBargainers.

For the record, I don't pay for Netflix. A friend generously gave me access to theirs so I'm still OzBargaining the right way.

Anyone else see this program? Thoughts?

TBH I think the mother dictating when her young children can shower (based on sunshine being their power source and a non-sunny day meaning these poor kids don't get to bathe… mmmm stinky children) is juuuuust a little too effing crazy. I mean yay, save money where you can but personal hygiene has gotta come first, especially for an active and presumably hormonal teenage boy. Good job parenting there, lady…

The guy who eats roadkill is interesting. Good on him for making use of the lives lost, but I sure as hell couldn't do it myself. Then again I am the same with pre-slaughtered / store bought meat so.. I'll stick to my dead plants for food thnx.

Should there be a documentary made about OzBargainers?

Would you volunteer for such a project? What would motivate you… expectancy of pay for participating? Or simply the joy or satisfaction of discussing the amazing bargainzzz you've scored over the years?

Do you personally feel you have a limit before the bargaining / tight arsedness becomes 'too much' and cringeworthy? What's your personal limit?

Do you worry about the influence your ways may have on your children? Like turning them into potential killjoys in social situations, or making it hard for them to comfortably enjoy the occasional reckless spending in the sake of fun? Have you witnessed this in your children before?

Do you have parents that are bargain driven people? Super hardcore tightarses? If so, what was it like living like that… did you hate it as a child, then find yourself following their footpath with pride?

I would probably love to do a doco on this topic… among countless others :) I love asking people questions and getting to know individual stories.

Wish this doco was a series :(

Netflix - The Ultimate Guide to Penny Pinching

And here I thought this was another post about getting Netflix at the cheapest price with a VPN etc!

    • lol my bad, didn't even think of that. I'll edit the title for clarity :)

I don't think a documentary about ozbargainers would be nearly as interesting as you'd imagine.

Perhaps not to us, but to the 'normies' out there.. we're walking freak shows.

      They'd love it.

Yes my friends think me and my fellow Ozbargainer's are freaks or at least "special"…
Though I'd never eat roadkill and I value my hygiene!

Maybe a documentary on JV or Broden will be partly interesting

      • I wanna see the doco on Scab!…

I saw an episode, and it was clearly mainly people faking outrageous “saving” strategies to get on TV.
Most people here are just buying ahead of time, buying in bulk, jumping on limited specials etc.
Not dumpster diving for baby food.

Extreme Cheapskates is funny as…cringe worthy watching.

  • http://penniesandpancakes.blogspot.com/2014/06/my-invitation… Not sure how much is real and how much is acting

    • As soon as I saw the episode where a woman was using her hair as dental floss .. I knew it was staged!

  • Don't worry about people actually wanting to watch it Netflix will back anything!

  • The guy who eats roadkill is interesting. Good on him for making use of the lives lost

I've seen something like this before in doco. Anyone who doesn't eat meat for ethical reasons (not wanting animals to die, not wanting to take life, for food) they could do this roadkill thing. As long as you don't start trying to run over the animals in your car for a feed, lol.

I would probably love to do a doco on this topic…

Give out a something free, for everyone that does a skype interview with you. This would work I think, if you actually want to make a doco for real.

  • You could do a kickstarter and offer a share of any future sale of your doco.
Get people to send in vids + $10 and the best make it into the doco.
It’s all in the editing that makes it interesting/watchable so spend the crowd source there with professionals.
Aim for a reality tv channel with your “pilot” episode.
