Interesting Gaming Controller for Mobile (MUJA Gamepad)

https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/muja-a-revolutionary-game…

Seems like an interesting concept for handheld gaming on mobiles compared with traditional gamepads. Not sure if the lack of tactile buttons is a good or bad thing given that touchpads give more customisation ability. Thoughts? Don't know the price though couldn't see anything other than a 50% off indicator but no concrete pricing.

It's not particularly revolutionary tech itself. Rather just a Bluetooth touchpad that sticks to the bottom of the phone with suction cups. The important question is how will it go with PUBG and other mobile games? PUBG for example will ban players that use unapproved Bluetooth controllers/companion apps. Probably won't work too well if the rear of your phone is curved.

    • Is there a list anywhere of approved bluetooth devices you can use with PUBG mobile?

    • Hello, it is an approved Bluetooth for PUBG. check the video of Real-time view of PUBG on official YouTube channel of HandScape Inc

  • Its going to take some time to play using the back of the phone as well as you are playing using the front now

    • I didn't look into the details - but surely this acts as physical input (buttons) and you can still use the screen for some input.

I see it being something like the additional buttons on an XBox controller.

The real problem is that there is no standard yet for 3rd party controllers, as a mobile developer it's best to just develop for what 90% of the market has - that is, no controller at all.

So whatever input solution is chosen must work for everyone, so any use of these type of controllers will always (IMO) be in addition to (and optional) input device.

caveat: Android TVs and their ilk are special cases since you assume they do have an input device.

Point being, while cool - I see trouble for them to become mainstream.

      I hope I'm wrong though.

  • Gonna be a bit weird holding a rectangular bar as a controller. My hand just shivers from the RSI you would get holding that.

    • It is supposed to stick to the back of the phone with suction cups.

The Playstation Vita had a touch pad on the back surface and there have been rumours about phones coming out with an inbuilt touch pad on the back more than once.

      • Sorry bad wording I just meant using the phones like controllers can feel a bit janky at times.

  • Leaked news claimed that Handscape MUJA gamepad will be launched to sale at 9am EST on Jan 30th. The super early bird price will be at $49, only 500 pieces limited; Early bird price be at $59, and WSRP is at $99.

  • Yep looks like Muja has launched for $50usd as the discounted price. It's early days on Indiegogo though with not many backers yet.
