Has Anyone Flown on Air Asia from Avalon Since They Launched?

Flying AA in 2 weeks and wanted to know what the immigration/customs experience is like? Do they have smart/autogates for faster immigration clearance? I'm also assuming Avalon as an airport is pretty basic in terms of facilities and shops.

    Avalon Airport is a delight.

Flew out from there for the first time last year. WOW !

Relaxed, clean, spacious, few people, happy staff !

It's like the polar opposite of Tullamarine.

If your flight says 2 hrs needed for checkin, allow 2hrs, but that will be good as you can sit and have a relax and a beverage in your spare 1hr.

    • Sounds promising. What was the queue like clearing immigration and customs on your arrival? Did they only have like 2 counters open to cater for the entire plane kinda thing?

      • Can't remember the counter numbers, but it took longer waiting for the bags.

  • Stopoed flying Air Asia as Avalons so far away from almost everyone.

    • Yep. AAX has lost my business now as well.

We'll see what happens when Vic Govt decides to stop paying bribes - sorry, I meant to say incentives - to AAX to fly to Avalon.

  • No smart gate for Aussie passport holders on arrival. You need to join the standard queue but it was alright because the airport is serving only AirAsia at this moment.

Must admit the airport location is good only if u lived 'nearby' o'wise if u missed the Skybus, you need to cop out $110 plus, for taxi from Southern Cross. I had the unfortunate experience and will only fly thru' Avalon again if the flights are really cheap o'wise will look at other options from Tulla to Changi Airport (Singapore)
