For peats sake Octomore is too smokey for me.
I see what you did there. Hate too much peatyness. Makes it taste like drinking liquid ash.
For me it's not so much the peat (I'd like it to be more peaty if anything), rather the combination of cask strength and the peat which makes this a bit intimidating.
Ahhh I see. I’ve been getting into the nice Japanese whiskeys lately. So much nicer than traditional scotch IMO.
Taste wise I prefer something a bit lighter on the peat, but Octomore only being aged 5 years is what likely kills it for me.
There’s a sharpness that comes from it being high peat at cask strength.Also from bruicchladdich I rate the PC (port Charlotte) 12 as far more enjoyable while around 1/3rd the peat, great gin too.
@rekabkram: Had the Octomore 8.4 a month ago. You can't talk to it unless you've tried it. So smooth and smokey. Most amazing. This month we've gone a Glen Dronach because there is no use competing with what Octomore do
