P&O Website PayPal Malfunction

If you are booking a cruise through the P&O website, please DO NOT use the PayPal function to pay!

When attempting to book a cruise yesterday during a sale, no payment methods would work. Both PayPal and attempting to pay by credit card gave a weird error message (I can't remember what it was, something like "can't resolve booking party" or something equally unhelpful and nonsensical). I realised why they wouldn't work, as I have a low limit on my credit card left over from getting a home loan. I tried PayPal choosing to pay by my bank account but that didn't work either. Eventually I called them up to see if I could pay by bank deposit or BPay. They made a new booking and adjusted the deposit amount to fit under my credit limit which was great, and I later paid the remainder by BPay (which you can do once you have an actual booking).

However, this afternoon, while looking at my accounts on netbank, they had processed the PayPal payment after all!!! Luckily no overdrawn fee or anything (I am glad I didn't try to book multiple times before calling). They did start a refund, but they said it could take two to three weeks :-( Super inconvenient, I'll have to try to spend basically nothing to be able to make sure my next 2 mortgage payments go through OK :(

So anyway, long story short, their PayPal payments give you an error and act like you haven't paid, but the payment still goes through anyway!

      Where did you get that idea from? I paid the deposit on credit card because they wouldn't accept bpay. Then paid the balance through bpay.

      Bottom line is they have like $2k of my money and they aren't giving it back for 2-3 weeks

    Yes that'll do it if you don't have enough credit on the credit card left.

    They as in PayPal not P&O, just to be clear. So maybe you did have enough credit after all?

    Sounds like something was broken with PayPal or P&O or between them.

      The PayPal I did through my bank account, but it gave the same error as before so I assumed it didn't work. The lady on the phone didn't see any payment either as she cancelled my attempted booking before making a new one, so it was a bit weird.
