18650 Batteries Purchasing in Australia 2019

hey guys,

Regardless of brand or quality, thats a discussion for another time and place, say you have decided on a brand/model of battery (18650 type), where do you buy them from?
Given that most shipping methods do not allow batteries, and as an extension of this, a lot of online retailers just flat out will not allow purchases from Australia, where do you guys suggest to go to buy these at a reasonable price shipped to Australia?

    eBay seller in Australia?

I charter a speedboat to bring mine across from China…

  • Some sellers on Aliexpress sell/ship them.

Personally, I break open old laptop batteries. Check each 18650 for capacity and keep the good ones for future usage and take the dead/dying ones to Aldi to put in their battery bin.

Hobbyking is a possible shipping option.

I don't think Aldi accepts lithium based batteries

      • They don't stop you putting them in their bin

A recent 20% eBay deal from seller gbd-online. Samsung 30Q worked out at $6.20 each shipped.

They have a store on eBay as well.

Wait for a discount eBay deal.

    • Ditto this. They have a reasonably good track history. Ebay, you can be buying fakes.

    Vape stores.

Not sure on best prices but you can check out stores like:

I’ve purchased items (including batteries) from these guys with great service.

  • I got mine from bunnings https://www.bunnings.com.au/solar-magic-2200mah-lithium-ion-…
2 for $10.40. Been using it over 1 year+ now. Cheap and durable.

  • Steal a Tesla Model S or X + can opener = endless supply

    • haha nice! love that idea!

  • Protected cells only
I only buy quality Panasonic or Sony cells
    Nothing ELSE

    But eBay for my purchases

  • I haven't found postage much of an issue. Most tech gets posted with a lithium battery inside it and none of that is an issue.

    • You see thats where the problem is, batteries installed is fine, batteries separately are the problem, which is what most carriers refuse to ship.

      • I've been getting them from dealextreme for years no issue

  • I buy my 18650 batteries from Vapcell on Alibaba. Link to the last batteries I purchased below, they are Vapcell F34 3400 mah, which from research are BAK cells (tested real capacity is about 3200 mah) . I also purchased my Sunkko 737DH spot welder (AU plug) from them , along with other ebike battery making material including 100% nickel strip (tested using scratch / soak in salt water to test it is 100% nickel/didn't rust).

I don't get any kick backs. Hopefully saves others the amount of research and testing I did to find a quality seller of 18650 batteries from my experience so far.

The other seller I am going to look at purchasing from is Batteryhookup who ship to Australia (link below). They are recommended by Micah Toll from Ebike School (for 5% discount use code 'ebike' )
