[No Longer Available] Free Entry Feb 1-3 @ Costco (Docklands VIC)

Moved to Forum: Original Link. MOD: Cease and Desist received from Costco, claiming that this deal will not be available regardless whether the pamphlet is present or not. See Merchant Takedown thread.

Hey OzBargainers,

For those of us who don't have a Costco membership but want to go and see what the fuss is all about.
I was at a Vietnamese new year event over the weekend and got this from a corpulent Costco individual who was also giving away biscuits - whilst I can not post the free biscuits any longer (as I have eaten them). This might be of interest to some people.

I don't know if the code on the back is unique / targetted - but I am sure if you wanted to make use of it you could give the store a call and enquire regarding the event. (I won't be using it myself because have spent far too much money at Costco and need to calm my farm).

Anyway - if you indeed go, enjoy spending $400 on toilet paper for a year and over sized condiments in your pantry that will remind you of that trip to Costco for years to come.

EDIT: I uploaded two pictures to the deal, but only one is showing, ah well.
Here are both images:

  • They should do this for other regions too.

    • I wonder if you call the other regions they might have something similar?

  • What sort of biscuits were they?

    • You know those Asian biscuits that are deceptively sweet but also have a salty tang?? Those ones.

        Ill take 10

      • sounds like salted caramel lol.

  • What is this exactly? I went to Costco the other day and I am not a member.

    • I hope you got a lot of toilet paper.

    • You need to be a member to buy stuff I think.

      • Is this a trial membership? The leaflet is very vague. It could just be an ad, nothing more.

you need the flyer I believe.
But you can always email [email protected] and say "I lost my VIP Shopping flyer, can you email me another one please?" and see if that works.

  • Do you have to have the original pamphlet ?

    • Not sure, that's why it's Targetted (?) <- question mark.
But as per above comment I believe you should be able to email and they would help you out I think.
They were quite enthusiastic about giving these away.

If someone does get a PDF you know what to do…

Fair warning - Docklands costco can be an absolute nightmare on the weekends to get around in. Always packed to the brim during the day, best going around dinner time in my experience.

I agree, I much prefer the other store.

I also find that Costco brings out the worst in some people; just stand well back and watch when samples of food are available. Worse than seagulls.
I feel for those merchandisers; it must be awful.

  • Costco will require the pamphlets handed out by costco staff during the new year festival to enter. Treat these as your tickets.

    • I really want to bring my family to come. how do I get that tickets then?

    • Stupid question. Can we get them on the day?

    • Are the pamphlet codes unique?

  • OP can you please download the Office Lens app on your phone and retake the photo's of the pamphlet, in case the code is not unique? Office Lens will align the page correctly and cut out the border automatically.

A little reminder - there are associated staff (has written comment above) who also read the ozbargain comments,
so any cunning ideas of trying to get in without the original flyer, may not work.

Plus you are still actually unable to purchase anything without the membership.
As it says on the flyer - "encourage you to become a member"
On the VIP day (Feb. 1-3) it will be very crowded, causing yourself un-necessary stress.

I think if you call the Costco near your residence and ask if you can have a day pass to look around Costco,
they will probably say yes, as you are only looking….. not buying.
Viewing the items at your convenience, during the week, instead of peak times on the weekend & open days,
    when it's very crowded.

But the decision is yours and each to their own.

Just found some reading on Costco - if you scroll to the bottom you will read some interesting comments.
eg:- you must know your prices before heading to Costco as the local supermarket maybe cheaper.

That's what I'm saying. This isn't a bargain at all, it's just an ad.

My local Costco has terrible mobile phone reception, so it's really difficult to compare prices. Coincidence?

    • Plus you are still actually unable to purchase anything without the membership.

Not true - last time I got in with an ozbargain pamphlet and they gave me a sheet of paper to take in. I purchased the goods and they scanned the paper and chucked it. No membership required. This was at docklands.
