Mortice door set with biometric and PIN that works with double doors.

Dear OzExperts,

I have a double door front entrance that comes with a door set fit for Middle Earth - I've brought the keys to several hardware shops to have it cloned but I suspect only a blacksmith can cast me a new one.

Being used to biometric locks, I'd like to change this one to a biometric one also but my go-to Samsung locks do not work well with double doors.

I've been looking on and off for a product but I'm nearing the end of my capacity. The next stop is rip out the doors and Reno the front for a wide front door. Would like to avoid that if possible.

Any suggestions for product?

Have you tried Moredoor? I hear they do hard-to-find metalwork.

I am very disappointed that I googled the "business".

OTOH, that is an amazing business name for a locksmith.

      • It does work better spoken than typed out. And sorry for having nothing useful to contribute. Hopefully one of the resident experts here will chime in soon.

        • All good. Half the purpose of forums are the lols.

  • xiaomi aqara s2 is a mortice lock, not sure if it suits double doors though

    • Thanks for the suggestion.

The Aqara S2 looks like the Samsung ones I typically use. The problem with the Samsung is the latch is a little short and the unit is a little too thick.

Obviously no one is targetting double doors as it is definitely out of fashion.

      • i have aqara s2, can measure the latch if you like

        • Wouldn't mind getting something to base the other offerings on. Thanks.

          I'm guessing you're a satisfied customer? Reliable?

            @[Deactivated]: spring latch is 13mm
            dead bolts are 21mm

@[Deactivated]: I put mine in a 40mm wooden door, that was originally cylinder lock and deadbolt
these are tailored more for hollow metal doors or doors that are fit for mortice,

in hindsight i would have gotten ultraloq ul1, for ease of installation.

(although ul1 doesnt have pin entry, the ul3 has pin entry + fingerprint, but fingerprint is not on handle)

The xiaomi is reliable, but is missing some features like passage mode, i dont have the gateway yet so dont have access to all the features

fingerprint is pretty reliable, I have entered my thumb as 2 different users to make sure it opens 90% of the time, when finger is wet or a little dirty it gets hard to open until everything is wiped down, pin still works touchpad is sensitive

wife actually loves that it locks everytime the door closes, and i love that she doesnt lock me out everytime i leave the house!

This. I have one in every house and shed.

The door is a very old solid timber door but it does have some flex because of the cutout for stained glass. Entry into Hogwarts is not my thing.

I placed mortice on wood frame doors too (but not into hollow core), not an issue. The strike plate and attachments makes the latching points very solid.

It's a different nightmare when the strike plate is on a movable object. :(
