Acer Aspire or Lenovo Ideapad - Which One?

Looking for a mid tier cheap laptop and found these two, both with Full HD screens. I am not prepared to pay anymore than $600. Not sure which one is best considering one is new and one is refurbished. Any advice would be appreciated.
Links for both are below.
Thanks in advance.

    Lenovo…Acer suck

    • Does it matter that one is brand new and one is not?

I would assume so? - New is always better than old. But still….Acer suck.

    • I’ve never issues with Acer Fergy in terms of their support and warranty
Always had my contact off whirlpool sort every issue out even outside warranty
Acer projector got dirt somehow on the lens, had to be repaired, Acer refunded me the lot

Acer screen I Bought off gumtree died, they refunded the full purchase price after I got the seller to send his invoice, out of warranty too

Lenovo do make good laptops If you get the better T series over the E series

      • Maybe no issues in terms of support and warranty, but by the above description….you have a lot of issues with their products which means you have to contact their support and warranty teams.

Funny, I was going to suggest the opposite.

Had Acer travelmate laptops for over a decade, no major issues, although the hinges of my last one started failing after 5ish years.

Bought a new Lenovo Yoga 920 last year for $1200, and it was the worst laptop I've ever bought. You'd think for a top-market product it'd be flawless, but nope. A few keys didn't work, including the arrow keys and /? key, it would start making a whirring sound passed 60% load, and it seemed to throttle so badly that most of my games played better on the Travelmate.

Their warranty is absolutely awful. After finally getting an email address, which took 2 hours of waiting in a queue for their live support, they made me do a bunch of inane troubleshooting which took ages, including formatting it twice, then when they finally decided to fix it they made me pack it up, put everything back into the box, seal it with bubble wrap for shipping, take a day off so the delivery guy could pick it up, and then wait a month for them to fix it. And when I finally got it back, there were more keys that didn't work than there were before I sent it!

So I then had to go through the entire process again, they took the laptop, I had to pack it up and take a day off for pickup, I waited another month because the repair shop is in Queensland, then I got it back and… Still not fixed, I doubt they took it out of the box this time.

More inane troubleshooting, before I finally threatened them under consumer law given that they had their chances to fix it, and they ended up giving me a refund… after packing it up and taking another day off so they could pick it up.

Ended up buying a refurbished Surface Book for $200 less and I couldn't be happier.

Long story short, stay away from Lenovo if you value your sanity.

      • I used to have an Acer Aspire laptop that irritated me to no end with its unpredictable system crashes (forcing me to do a hard reset), constant fan noise, overheating and abysmal battery life. I bought a Yoga 920 to replace it and my experience has been great! It's fast, battery life is incredible, fan doesn't come on too often and hinges are nice and sturdy unlike the floppy ones in my old Acer. For gaming, I'd say throttling is expected as this isn't its primary purpose (but you can connect an eGPU).

As for their service, I've only called them up once (to extend my warranty) so I can't comment much but I got straight through to a person and didn't have to wait at all.

  • I am typing these comments from a 8 years old Lenovo Thinkpad.

  • Get a refurb from RENEWD, you'll get a much better spec unit for less than that.

  • I'd go for the Lenovo with 20% off. See if it can support an m.2 ssd and pick one up.
