Cheap digital camera, around 5mp, maybe waterproof?

Hi,

My friend is looking to buy a camera to take a few pictures here and there. It doesn't need to be anything special but would be good if it was waterproof. Also, she doesn't want the hassle of double a batteries, etc, so a rechargeable camera would be great.

Any ideas?

Thanks

    • The Fujifilm XP10 should even be cheaper.

  • I love how people think AA's are a hassle!

It's one of the highest items on my list of criteria for a camera!
So often I see people who have a flat camera battery and don't have their charger.. their camera is useless.
If I run out of charge and I haven't got my charger, I can pop into ANY servo, supermarket, deli and many other places and grab some replacements.. Even remote controls at people's houses can be a good supply.

    Proprietary batteries are:
    a) expensive (therefore you're unlikely to buy a backup)
    b) nigh on impossible to charge if you forget your charger and even when you have your charger, your camera is useless until you've recharged the single battery you get in the box. (I can just slam in some replacements)
    c) very hard to buy a replacement in an emergency (and they're not charged when you can find a camera store that stocks them)
    d) offer barely more/and sometimes less battery life

    • But how much money do you effectivly waste on batteries? I still can take photos but i dont need to purchase AA's all the time. To be honest if a camera uses AA batteries there is no way id even consider purchasing it.

You can get NiMH AAs and a charger, even a USB charger.

The main drawback of NiMH AAs is the weight compared to Li. My prosumer camera weighs almost nothing when the cells are taken out. But that is with 4 AAs. The newer generation of prosumers work with 2 AAs and that little bit of weight does make handling more satisfactory.

        • Precisely.. I have 4 Eneloop rechargeables and if I need more than that before I can get the drained set recharged, I have a set of Duracells as backup..

  • Yeah she won't really have a problem with recharging the stock battery, and I'll probably buy a few more from eBay anyway.

At the moment I have 3 batteries for my panasonic camera that I keep full charged, in my camera case. I never use them but it is good to know that I have some ready to go.

  • Target EASTGARDENS has a waterproof digital camera for $59 (Clearence). I seen it Yesterday. Maybe give them a call and ask the details

Nar, I know a very concealed place. Where they sell things under priced. CHICKENFEED. I bought a 8mp, HD video camera from them once, for ONLY 38 BUCKS lol. And it still works, never failed or anything. XD Their prices are so low probs b/c they rent their shops in less common areas, hence less people visit, they need to get rid of their stuff, so they make it cheaper. WIN WIN! http://www.chickenfeed.com.au/store-locations.htm

    • Haha lol that's an awesome buy
