JB Hi-Fi Item on Sale 4/5 Days after Purchasing

Hey Guys
Wasn't too sure on JB HIFI policy here. I purchased a new apple MacBook Air from jb hifi on the Friday that has just passed, and today they have put them on sale $200 cheaper (10% off)

I was curious as to whether JB Hifi has any 'Cashback' policies or sale policies where if you purchased it recently they would give you the difference.

p.s. I am not too fussed if they don't, just means I missed out on a deal. I am more just curious as I've heard from some one thing, and others another.

thanks

They don't have an official policy that the public can view but there are numerous cases of refunds/store credits/gift cards given to customers after item has gone on sale. See OzBargain and Whirlpool.

There appears to be some kind of internal company policy. If you talk to the store manager they will nearly always give a refund in such cases.

      Tip for OP:
If you can't get to the store or don't want to call (managers are often busy), search for your store on the JB Hi-Fi website and send an email to ask for refund of difference. Managers are often the ones to read emails.

Could just be out of good will, at managers discretion. Op can ask, but has no right to make demands.

        • It could be, but I've seen so many reports of a speedy resolution (with no demands bring made) in these cases. It makes you think it's quite normal practice for them, particularly if the item was purchased within 10 days or so. I would be very surprised if OP didn't get a refund of the difference in this case.

        • More importantly, he won't have a chance if he makes demands. Don't annoy them, be nice

  • Next time use a credit card with price protection. Most Black/Platinum cards will have a couple of weeks and the Cole Credit Card has 2 years.

If you haven't used it much you can try returning it and buying another.

Or buy a second one and return it on the original one's receipt (not sure if a serial number would be recorded on the receipt though)

So I actually purchased it through GEM Visa (credit card application done instire) as I didn’t have sufficient funds (was $400 short, but wanted this MacBook

According to their policy I should? Is it worth giving them a call?

For $200, I think it warrants a call to find out.

    • You have to pay for that protection - can't remember what the fee is for price protection

Very recently, a friend had bought a sound bar system something and price fell about $150 after a few days.

He went instore and asked, they gave him store credit worth the diff.

    So worth checking.

  • I’ve read a few of these on here (and other forums) recently and almost all of them went back in and explained and got the difference refunded or given as a gift card.

I would simply go back to the store with the item and receipt and just explain and ask.

what did JB Hi-Fi say when you asked them?

  • Should have negotiated 10% off at time of purchase. Dropping $200 off a $2000 item doesn't seem unwarranted. They seem more inclined to do price drops if you buy the extended warranty (I guess they get a high commission on the somewhat pointless extended warranty, where consumer law probably covers you anyway).

    • I Tried to price match with Officeworks as they already had them on sale, and they said as I was purchasing through GEM Visa that they could not price match. I. was kind of iffy about this as art shouldn't matter :/

      • No need to even have a price to match $2,000 purchase allows room for negotiation on price.

Paying on credit card though, I think does add something to their costs perhaps. Maybe someone who has worked in retail can confirm what %% etc credit card purchases cost the shop. Im thinking probably only half a percent or something. So still can reduce/negotiate better price.

Yes they will refund you the difference, happened to me twice and refunded both times but the process was quite tedious..you need to have the original receipt, return the item, re-buy the same item again (you can rescan the old box), and they'll refund the difference in a few days if you used cards.

  • Doesn't JB have 10% on apple like every month?

Mac sales are quite regular. Not all Apple products go on sale, for example iPhones.

    Reading this thread.

Go in store if possible and ask nicely. Don't be a (profanity), and you'll probably get the difference back.

You should be able to get the 10% off price as I know, as I used to work for JB.

Do ask nicely and given that you made your payment on finance - it may be a little harder to process but should be able to be reversed.

    Good luck!

If anything, speak to a manager.

Ok so update. I called them just now and they have said they will return the difference in gift card. Thanks so much for all your help and comments!

  • Trying to get help in store is painful. They are always soo busy.

but anytime I have gone in with an issue they have been exemplary and always done the right thing. +1 JB, you've done it again.
