Any Unlimited 4G Data Plan That Can Be Used as Internet Connection?

Hi guys,

Basically I'm just looking if there's any unlimited 4G Data plan that you can use. If there's any then I can just put the sim card into my portable 4G modem (currently I have the Vodafone R216h modem, unlocked) and replace my internet basically and I can even carry it around anywhere I want so I'll always have unlimited data everywhere.

I don't know if there's any such plan in Australia though (I live in Sydney). I've tried to look at some plans from optus/Vodafone/Telstra/Kogan Mobile/Virgin Mobile/dodo, etc. and so far I haven't found any.

P.S. It has to be 4G speed, and I do mean up to 100Mbps download/up to 50Mbps upload speed and there's no data cap nor is there any point where the speed will be reduced after you use a certain amount of data.

Thanks in advance!!

  • $199 Telstra, you need to keep the sim in a mobile phone though. You can tether off it while you’re out and about and plug the phone in to a router capable of tethering off the phone when you’re at home.

Plenty of people doing that here.

Hi mate, thanks for the reply!

Ahhh okay okay so theres that one but it's $199 a month ooof and it requires you to have it inside your mobile phone and it's also 24 months contract….

Hmm that's a hard one to swallow haha. Damn, so that's the only one available?

I'm not sure why you're surprised. It was never going to be cheap.

        • Yeah I guess I'm kind of out of the loop with regards to the pricing haha.

          Thanks mate!

  • Wait till optus have a deal again.

You can get a Tab 4s with 200gb per month for $50. Get 4 of those, data pool and sell the Tablets for $600 each.

    Still only 800gb per month.

How much data do your really need per month?

    • Hi mate, haha yeah that's one idea.

Hmm based on my usage this month,

      I have used:

      • 82GB in total on my portable 4G modem (I have the Vodafone r216h),

      • 33.5 GB on my phone data plan.

      • (this is just an estimate) around ~50-60GB on my (extremely slow) TPG internet connection at home.

So in total so far during January I've used 175 GB in total mate.

Do you really need unlimited if you're only using 175GB a month?

One option is the $41.25 80GB per month Optus Mobile Plan ($55 sim only plan with 25% discount).
And then $60 200GB Fixed Wireless with Optus (or $80 for 500GB).

        • Oh yeah I checked that one mate.

The problem is this one right here (I found it in the terms and conditions):

Basically they won't allow me to get the simcard out and use it in a portable 4G modem. HOWEVER, with that said, it's probably the best deal I've seen O.O.

My TPG internet connection is so bad, it's like 3.8 Mbps down and 0.9Mbps up, I can't stream video and it takes so long to upload 3-8 MB files sometimes. So this actually has the potential to replace my TPG connection at home.

          Thanks mate!

          EDIT:

OHHH WAITT, there's this one right here:
Optus Portable Modem 4G plan, 500GB/month for $80, 24 months contract

Huh, that's the best deal I've seen so far!

          • @blue2609: That 500GB is the one i'm using now. Similar situation as you as my ADSL connection is the pits and we won't get NBN for a while.

FYI, that plan is also available month to month if you pay for the modem outright.

            • @tabz: Yeah same my area won't be covered with NBN until 22nd century.

I'll definitely consider this one as it's definitely the best deal I've seen so far and I can carry the modem with me all the time everywhere I go.

Cheers mate, have a good one yeah and thanks for the help!

Here I see the best deal is the Optus 200G with iPad Pro $75.

      • Right right I'll keep it in mind mate, thanks for the info

  • See if Optus still sell vivid wireless plans. They are shutting it down in March and moving everyone to Optus but on the same plan as you are currently.
I'm on a $100/mth unlimited plan. Only slight hassle is the router/modern is pretty big and 240v powered, certainly not a small one like you normally get. And yes just to confirm it runs on Optus 4G

    • Hi mate, thanks so much for the reply.

I just checked vivid wireless literally after reading your comment but unfortunately it looks like it's not available anymore.

      (Vivid wireless no longer available)[http://imgur.com/gallery/PQIAEEd]

They instead redirect me to Optus wireless broadband plan just like you said

      Cheers mate
