Surprise Travel Gift

Hello travelers

Looking at sending my parents away on a surprise holiday.

I am unsure of what to do.

Option 1: purchase gift card from flight Centre, does anyone know if they will price match opposed to going direct to the airline when using a gift card?

Option 2: purchase the flights in advance and pay the ‘change of date fee’ that is more flexible to their needs and pay a lower cost for airfare

Any other suggestions would be appreciated or best way to go about surprise gift without spending unnecessary costs :)

Could you give them a card that says "Surprise! I'm sending you on a holiday!" and then sit down with them to work out the details (when, where, etc) and then book?

    • Haha same idea as me :D

  • Just give them a travel brochure for the destination you had in mind then help them work out the details.

How exciting! Lucky mum and dad!

Option 3: Make your own gift card/voucher in word detailing the trip (i.e. Trip for 2 to Japan. Includes flights, accommodation for 10 nights, x tour, x tour etc). That way it's a nice surprise gift and you can still work out the details with them. Do NOT give them a blank cheque / gift card to flight centre - they will certainly get ripped off

  • Flight Centre don't price match any longer.

  • Thanks for the wonderful ideas and positive feedback :)
Unfortunately my parents are not great with commiting so unless I have paid for something somehow, they will likely never allow me to pay if I gave them a brochure or card to state I’d like to send them away

  • Are you sure they want a holiday?

Could give them a hand made voucher to the value of say 5k, and state that if it is not used by x/x/xxxx there is a fee of 200 percent of the voucher back to you, that way some one wins

    • or 200% to me. lol

  • Cash > gift cards.

  • Thank you everyone for your output much appreciated x

  • Hey. Have you already chosen something? How did everything go? It will be very interesting to see the report with photos.
