I bought a pair of ugg boots at Rivers for $6.00. The tag said $12.00, but it scanned as $6.00. The only catch was that they were not refundable.

Their website also says those ugg boots are $6.00, so the price is legit.

If you just want cheap ugg boots, this is a good deal.

You know they can't legally say non-refundable.

If there is a fault with the item you purchase(that you did not know about at the time of purchase) regardless of if it's on clearance or not, you are legally entitled to a refund or and exchange.

    • thier t&c's state sale items are exchange only.

      • +8

They may not reduce your entitlements below what is legislated in the Trade Practices Act.

      • +6

Store T's and C's do not take precedence over your statutory rights given to you by the Australian Consumer Law (replaces the Trade Practices Act for purchases made from 01/01/11). Doesn't matter whether the goods are massively discounted or regular price. By stating they will only exchange an item they could well be in breach of the ACL sections that deal with misrepresentation, being misrepresentation of your statutory rights. It used to be s53 of the TPA, not sure what it is now.

    • I've bought clearance stuff at rivers recently. I was told at the checkout I could not get a refund only exchange, except if the items were faulty.

      • If the goods aren't as described, not merchantable quality or not fit for their purpose, you COULD be entitled to a refund. If defects are brought to your attention, then that one is off the table. You can't get a refund if you get them home and they don't fit or the colour isn't right or you find them somewhere cheaper. Some stores will do this, but this is well above and beyond what they are required to do under the law.

  • Are these actual "Ugg" brand boots?

    • +2

No. They are Rivers own products.

    • +1

Probably not. They're probably not genuine sheepskin either.

      • And what are they then??

        Sheepskin ain't expensive…

        • +10

          Tell that to the sheep.

For 6 bucks they'll be synthetic fake fluff only good for indoors.

        • +3

Made from 100% recycled 70's toilet seat covers.

        • I bought a $7.94 pair from BigW that looks just like the $6 pair at Rivers. Made in China. Synthetic outer, inner, and sole. No sheep were killed in its making :-)

  • These are dirt cheap. The ad for UggStop.com.au that comes up says similar pairs are $120 each - what a ripoff!!

    • +2

The ones at Uggstop are "Ugg" branded. These ones at Rivers are "Rivers" or non branded. I'm sure there will be a big quality difference?

      • Expensive ones are made in Australia maybe?

    • Obviously sheep fleece lined uggies are more expensive.

Synthetic fleece ugg boots are cheap or used to be. Too long ago small chemists used to have them out in bins in front of their shops for $2-8.

Chemist Warehouse have synthetic ones on special for $19.99 in their latest catalogue. Calf high and ankle high boots are pictured.

I'm wearing a pair I bought last winter when they were on special $8-$10 I think. Only ever wear it indoors and it's still in great condition!

    I love Rivers!!!! <3

  • yeah should update title to say "UGG lookalike".

    • +1

ugg is a generic term for the style of boot (in Australia), like 'thongs', 'sandals', etc etc

      • +4

Tell that to the American company that owns the Trademark and will sue anyone that tries to use it other than under very restricted terms!

        • +2

This is ozbargain. No one here gives a shit about the american company that owns the trademark…..

        • +5

Tell that to the American company

they tried and failed in 2006……

        • +1

The term is generic. It has been fought out by IP lawyers and gone through IP Australia hearings and I believe the full federal court. Ugg is a generic term in Australia for a sheepskin boot.

        • -2

Glad he's not a muslim, they scare me…

      • ah - thanks for this …I just looked after reading your post.. I can't find them in the online shop though - similar ones, but not that price - I'll keep looking - meanwhile if anyone finds a link to the ones in the online store (pick-up is better than post if possible, and I'm in SA) - that would be great (like you have nothing better to do on Easter Friday). Let's hope that interweb control centre Buddhist is listening now :)

Their website says-The Rivers Online Clearance Store has a minimum purchase value of $20 (excluding any postage/shipping charges). Any transaction under $20 cannot be processed.
Shipping is $8.80. So, you need to buy something else over $5- or 2 pairs!!

Rivers should be shut down for selling cheap, ugly clothing and shoes. All the apparel and shoes are so cringe worhty but i suppose if you lke drinking rum and drive a bombodore, then most likely you will be lining up to get your cheap nasty clothing from Rivers.

    • +2

Quick its the fashion police, everyone RUN!!!!

  • Would buy some but their biggest size is 3 sizes too small for me :(

  • no size 12 rivers sucks

    • 14 here, disappointment all around. =(

  • Bought 2 pairs of boots from Rivers the other week when they were $20ea - best sale ever! First time in at Rivers, will be back!
    Good deal price.

  • They were using non waterproof glue on their soles. Had soles fall off 3 pair. No more rivers shoes for me.
