TRS Processing Time

Hello has anyone travelled before Christmas that claimed TRS via the “fill in the form and drop it in the box” method received their GST and receipts back? Travelled out of SYD on 17/12 and still waiting on those to return. Claims have been processed in mostly 2-3 weeks even for the above mentioned method.

  • I did on 14th Dec. When I came back on 7th Jan there was an envelope waiting in my mail box. They had sent me all my invoices with a note " No drop box form submitted with receipts". But I had submitted everything including drop box form. I called them up and explained the situation and they asked me to email them everything back. Received my TRS refund 3 weeks later.

Why not do it via the app? Incredibly easy and you get it within a day (at least I did). Lines weren't that long either but not like you're usually in a rush at the airport

it's not by choice. Sometimes, the TRS office isn't opened and they have staff there handing out the stupid forms.

Just download the TRS app and join the queue but pray to god theres no china bound flight at the same time as you or you'll be waiting, usually its pretty quick, credit card, passport and receipt show them the stuff and the money is back same day.

  • I've only had to fill the form in twice. Once about 3 years ago was processed in 2-3 weeks. The other one was in October last year, and it didn't come through until mid December.

  • I did it at Melbourne airport on the 30th, took about a week.

    • Are you actually talking about the TRS claim lodged through the form, or just a regular claim done over the counter? I suspect you're talking about the latter after merely scanning the title and not bothering to read the actual post…

  • It’s not by choice. At peak times, the TRS staff will shut down their system, not process claims onsite, and switch to form submission. Even if you’ve downloaded the app and got the QR code ready, you’ll still be instructed to use the paper forms.

    • Yes correct. I had to use paper forms on 4th Dec in Sydney. I got the refund on 23rd Jan

  • i lodged mine on the 19th Jan at Perth Airport. nothing so far.

  • I lodged mine at Sydney Airport on the 30th Dec. Still waiting …

Travelled from SYD 7 Dec 2018.
Received refund into my bank account 17 Jan 2019.

Had completed the claim on app and ready to go. Arrived at TRS, shambles and line nearly back to security. Finally got inside and the only 2 agents was flat out handing out forms and envelopes. No immediate processing was been done, don't blame them either.

To those suggesting to use the app, sometimes (often) its not a choice for the traveller and the form is the only option to claim.

  • Does anyone know? My dad is visiting and he doesn't have an Australian bank account. When doing the drop off method and use Australian bank account, do they check if the names match?

    • I think you can provide a debit/credit card instead.
