Google Pixel 2 XL - Cheap in The US - Is This a Bad Idea?

https://www.n1wireless.com/google-pixel-2-xl-128gb-smartphon…

Delivered to AU for around $500 (pre GST and duties). I understand it's 'open box' and I may have AU warranty issue, however assuming I don't get a 'lemon' this seems to be a pretty good deal.

I'm also conscious that this site has quite a few poor reviews and there is a 15% charge for returned phones.

I feel the above risks to be reasonable given the price. Can't seem to find a white one for much less than $900 here.

Appreciate any input!

  • Price is pretty good. I have had mine for 8 months now without any issues, but having heard so many people are having issues with their device and with their replacement device I would be hesitant to buy it from overseas without warranty.

How about the LG V30+ from JB Hi-fi $479 (available after 2 days)?

  • I'll check out the V30. I've had a Pixel in the past and just loved the speed and seamlessness of the software. I'm on a Samsung S8 now and its a bit clunky.

    • Agree with you there. I loved my original Pixel XL more tbh, but the front facing speakers on this 2 XL is great and the OS runs exceptionally smooth.

Have neglected my Note 9 quite a bit. Only thing I like in Samsungs is the image quality on their panels and saturated photos the camera takes.

I'm going to try to get my hands on one V30+ and see if I love it more than my Pixel 2 XL.

  • The pixel 2 is not particularly reliable from what I've heard.

    I wouldn't risk it.

  • Pixel 2 XL is the worst phone I have had in years. Warranty process is a PITA

    • Is that due to the well known issues? Screen, speaker, charger ETC?

  • Had a good run with my Pixel 2 XL before I upgraded. But yeah - given the documented potential issues with the device, buying from overseas with no AU warranty isn't something I'd recommend. $500 might be cheap for the phone, but it's still a large chunk of money.

    • +2

Feeling of logical reasoning is increasing + rush of adrenaline to impulse buy is decreasing.

Thank-you for the input, I think I'll pass!
