Where to Buy Good (Non Shrinking) Cotton Garments?

Does anyone know where I can buy cotton goods that don't shrink, and that I can just throw in the washer and dryer? I've tried everything from Kmart to designer labels, and the problem seems to exist right across the board. Often the labels on a T shirt will say "Dry Flat". I mean, really? A T shirt?

I've lived in the UK and USA for a good few years in each in the past, and the problem doesn't exist there. I've got Walmart cotton goods still in perfect shape from 15 years ago, and Marks and Sparks stuff likewise. Here in Oz, though, it's a lottery. Some stuff shrinks like crazy, some shrinks a bit, nothing seems to be totally non shrinking. It really irks me that retailers have been selling such low quality stuff (often at high quality prices) for so long.

Dryers are sooooo bad for your clothes! Yes, they are convenient, but sometimes super risky. It is always best to check the care instructions to see if it can be put in the dryer. Symbol Breakdown. As to where to buy clothes, check the label before purchasing and hopefully that should help :)

I don't use dryers but the clothes (cotton) from Costco are so robust that they have lasted years now with weekly usage and cleaning. Not sure if you are a member but worth the fee for access to quality goods you can't buy in local clothes shops.

    • What a good idea! Thanks.

  • Maybe you have been filling out?

      LOL. That too.

      • Cut back on that creatine bro. Heaps swoll.

  • You can still get M&S here, and I find the sizing doesn't vary.

  • Personally I buy T-shirts from these guys.

They are excellent heavy duty cotton and interesting colours and graphic designs.

I usually buy when I find something I like that is on sale because they aren't cheap and it is US dollars. When they have free shipping it is in the US, but the price does come down for shipping when that happens. I particularly like their Kliban cat range of t-shirts.

In relation to drying, get yourself a couple of decent airers and leave them in warm spots around the home. We have a dryer but it, mostly, just fills the hole next to the washing machine. I dont "dry them flat" just hang them over the rungs.

Costco has a decent airer on sale at the moment on discount, but you don't want to put anything really heavy on it because the plastic support might break. Long story short - hot day, decided to wash pillows, power went out part way through wash so put very sodden pillow on airer on balcony - airer broke. Took airer back to Costco and got new one with understanding won't do this again.
