Oh look, a new user who's first post is for a Catch product, a company which is banned from this site for sock-puppeting.. :-/

And better yet. An item that is pretty much completely ineffective

That's a worse first line than this is my first post so be nice

      • I am still trying to figure out if it is an evaporative cooler or a portable air conditioner.. As a 16000 BTU 4.7kw evaporative cooler sounds pretty crazy

        • portable for rental property

        • Its a air conditioner. Evaporative means there is no need to empty the water which was condensed from the air. From reviews on the web (ones which arent on Catch), its a pretty ordinary system and very loud since everything is inside.
Only thing that goes outside is a vent tube.

I bought one of these about 5 years ago and would have to disagree that it is ineffective. It initially was used to cool a 40sqm room in Brisbane North and, whilst obviously not as effective as a split system, still managed to cool the room even on the hottest days. The trick with any portable air conditioner is how you vent the hot air. The vent pipe is pretty crap on this model but, after some research, I found that if you cover the pipe in bubble wrap it does an amazing job of insulating and most of the hot air ends up outside and the bubble wrap stays relatively cool. The issue of noise is a personal one and is the same for EVERY portable bar none. I now have it in my bedroom and find the noise soothing and actually helps me sleep. I don’t use it often - only on the really hot days - but my word it chews threw the electricity…. This, in my opinion, would be its greatest issue.

    Damn, needed 6!

  • 4.7kw. So this is a portable AC which requires a three phase connection to use?

  • Is it a terrible idea to vent into another room?

Depends if it's the mother in-laws room.
