these are the best. i got the 4 probe version. liked it better

  • This or the little handheld units with the single probe?

I'm mostly interested in cooking reverse sear steaks.

i like more then 1 probe, i use one just to monitor my smoker temp, one in beef, one in chicken etc

    • If they're big fat steaks, one of these (or cheaper with fewer probes) and a good instant read hand held will let you monitor the temp for the first bit and then easily check the temp when you're searing it.

      I got the dual version
      https://www.ebay.com.au/i/222346437600

good for roast on the bbq (so you can monitor different parts.
or even just two steaks for those who like it cooked differently.

You'll end up getting both but if you want to pick just one for now then something like this will be more beneficial.

Easy to track the slow cook stage with a thermometer but the searing happens very quickly and best using a timer and practice…10 seconds either side of optimal will make a big difference depending on your cooking style and you can't have an instant read thermometer in more than one steak at a time.

  • Can each probe be set to different temperatures?
is the accuracy actually accurately accurate?
Can I just use 1 prong?

    Great product, highly recommended.

  • Got this on a previous deal. Overall I like it. The quality is OK but on one probe the stainless braid is a bit frayed which can stab you if not you're not careful. The probes are reasonably accurate and the unit has good wireless range. App is very basic and works but needs more features IMO - check reviews on Play Store

  • Does this work well with Android phones ? I was put off by a bad experience in the past with a similar product (BBQ Buddy Smart Meat Thermometer), where the app is no longer developed and refuses to connect to newer 2016+ android devices.

I tried it on a Galaxy S8 and an old LG G4, worked OK on both.

      • thank you very much for your reply. cheers i'll give it a go.
