Warranty Process for New Google Pixel 3 XL Phone Purchased off eBay from Private Seller

Hi guys,

I have just purchased a brand new pixel 3xl off ebay from a seller (not store) who bought it off Domayne. The seller has not opened the box and Domayne would not take the phone back from seller for change of mind. So, he sold the phone on ebay (or claimed). He has sent me a pdf of the original invoice.

I was just wondering about how the warranty process would work? The domayne receipt states his name and billing address. Am I still eligible to get warranty?

Thanks!

Yes, of course. Warranty is provided regardless of their refund policy.

    • Ok, so the warranty is also transferred onto me? If I go to domayne, give them the invoice and my id (which will be different), will they honour the warranty? Thanks.

up to them, they don't have to.

This unfortunately, only the original buyer gets warranty guaranteed under law. Second hand if things don't work you haven't got much of a leg to stand on. The manufacturer (google) will probably warranty a pixel 3xl though if it hasn't been registered to anyone else yet, it just 'might' take longer than through a local retailer (may also be quicker). The failure rates on these sort of things are pretty low so it can be worth the gamble if you're saving a lot. I wouldn't bother for a tiny saving though.

I believe that the exception to this is where the item was received as a gift, the consumer guarantees are transferred to the new owner.

            • @Olokun: How will they know if someone gifted to me or not?

              • @stockastics: That's the thing, they won't know so you should be fine for the consumer guarantees under law.

You still have the manufacturer warranty as a back up.

          • @[Deactivated]: Phone has not been opened from box pr registered to anyone..

            • @stockastics: If I were you, I'd just buy it from the store. Given Google's poor QC there's bound to be a major issue that'll allow for a refund.

Sorry to say office works are selling them for$900 (with a bonus Chromecast)

You mentioned 'change of mind'? No warranty covers this.

    • No change of mind for me..I am asking about warranty If i need to claim..havent received the phone yet. And officeworks is not selling the xl for $900

      • I bought a fridge from a guy on Gumtree.. Invoice mentions his details, but I've been able to get repairs under warranty. So there's that.

        • Hopefully I don't have to claim warranty. But this is reassuring..
