My library gave 10 Kanopy credits per month per library membership.

There is an extensive collection of Australian films on Kanopy and great docos and international films. The price is right = free.

    • Same, 10 here.

      • Same here for the 2 libraries I have added. So 10 each.

    • Nice… I updated the title to remove 5

    • Can confirm that the Eastern Regional libraries in Victoria offers this. Not aware of any limits so assume it is unlimited access

If you are a uni student, some uni libraries will give you an unlimited number of titles to access. I recently watched The Cost of Construction (Cavelight Films) which was pretty interesting. Depending on what your library subscribes to within Kanopy, it has some Hollywood type movies available like Lion, Boy, Hunt for the Wilderpeople etc (e.g. the sort of ones one might need to study in English class). Oooh, and you may get access to The Great Courses (for those who get excited about udemy/coursera type open learning programs).

I have noticed that uni accounts do not have kids section. But you can have several libraries and unis liked to the one account so, just need to sign up to every library

I did one of the free courses at UTAS that gave me a Uni account, and that is one that seems to give the unlimited access you mention… Win!
We'll see if there is anything of interest on here…

      • how do you go about signing up using UTAS account?

There used to be a Fitbit course but I don't think it is being run at the moment. Please don't waste spots frivolously, but the Diploma of Dementia Care has a 100% HECS scholarship (check the fine print for eligibility) - http://www.utas.edu.au/wicking/bdc. For the lesser of two evils, I would go for the individual Science of Gardening unit instead… http://www.utas.edu.au/sciences-engineering/science-of-garde… The overall tax payers of Australia do still have to fork out to subsidise your place either way (you get out of the Student Contribution side of things, it is still a "Commonwealth Supported Place"), so choose wisely. You still will be charged for the ~$41 SSAF fee (but you can pay later via the tax system, racking up a HECS debt for it). If you have any ethical bones in your body and you have no interest in sustainability or healthcare, then you are better off just subscribing via your local library + try your state library to double dip the titles per month.

  • How much time/movies does a credit get you?

    • +1

1 movie per credit, credits expire each month but you get new ones each month too.

  • Couldn’t find any local libraries to add unfortunately.

    • If you’re in Victoria, you can apply for an e-library membership at the City of Melbourne library. You fill out the online form, then they post you an access letter (to make sure you really are in Victoria) and then you can access the online library and you’ll have a membership number which you should be able to use to join Kanopy. I’m guessing the other states would have similar set ups, so maybe look up the major city in your state.

    • I think you can let Kanopy know so they add your library - where are you?

    • Thanks for that, I’m in NSW so I’ll check if the State Library of NSW has something like that.

Tried Parramatta and Central Coast NSW before, both not there.

Out of curiosity I just tried Auburn, Blacktown, Castle Hill, Fairfield, Rouse Hill… only got a hit on Fairfield. So it’s not widespread.

    • I’ve just looked it up, NSW residents can register at the City of Sydney Library here

      Gives 5 credits per month.

There's a number of Qld libraries also covered, including Brisbane and the Redlands.

  • Thanks always great to have another free source of media!
