USB-C Port Failed? Fast Charging and USB MTP Don't Work

I bought a Note 9 512GB from Three Brothers Mobiles on ebay in November (they've posted a few deals here as well). The phone is genuine AU stock.

Just yesterday, my phone started behaving weird… Using either OEM Samsung, LG, xiaomi, tronsmart or Blitzwolf chargers with QC, it simply shows "slow charging". I checked the settings and fast cable charging is enabled.

The phone also no longer registers when connected to a computer… It shows the error message "usb device not recognised", and the phone doesn't show up as connected to the computer either.

Is this likely to be a usb port failure?

Also, does the Samsung kiosk in Chadstone take warranty claims?

Going to ask the obvious question before someone else? You've tried different cables right?

    • Yep, tried OEM Samsung, LG and Xiaomi cables in addition to the different chargers

  • Is this likely to be a usb port failure?

Most likely. Have you restarted the phone? Strange I know, but I had a phone once that every now and then would stop charging until it was restarted.

Also you say different chargers, have you tried different cables too?

Also, does the Samsung kiosk in Chadstone take warranty claims?

Yes they do, but are sent away for repair and then sent back for pickup. So if you're thinking of having it repaired on the spot, no go.

  • Does Samsung have somewhere you can take your phone to get fixed on the spot like an Apple Genius bar? The phone looks to have a $1799 RRP so for that price I would be surprised if they left you without a phone whilst they repaired yours for more than a day or so.

Restart the phone, update the firmware to the current version, try other cables before you take it to Samsung.

  • Maybe some crap is in the port and needs to be cleaned out? I'd try cleaning it with some IPA and a cotton bud,but knowing me it'll probably make things worse and void the warranty lol.
