Suggest Me a Mobile Plan $40/Mo with Data and International Calls

My 12 month Vodafone $40 plan with $5 discount ($35/mo) with 20GB data/mo has expired and Vodafone is now charging me $40/mo. I talked to them and they are offering me their current $40/mo plan with 50GB data, free international calls and $5/day international roaming. The problem continuing with Vodafone is that their signal is extremely poor at Docklands, Melbourne to the extent that I get no Data connection, people calls me but my phone doesn't ring, call drop outs and people on the other end cannot hear me. They also have coverage gaps on the train line I travel. I have to use the phone very often at work due to MFA, Slack, Emails etc. and this poor network is very frustrating.

I really want to switch to a better network and as much as I dislike I think Telstra would be a better option to switch. I don't want to pay more than $40/mo and require about 20-30GB of data and free international calls (and free incoming SMS while international roaming like Vodafone). I already have a Samsung S9 bought outright last year. What are my best options with Telstra or a MNVO ? Want a pre-paid or 12 month plan.

    Boost Prepaid

$40 Recharge gets you 45GB (Base of 22GB + 23GB Bonus) of data for the first 5 recharges. The unused data from the previous month can be rolled over to the next month.

So assuming you use like 15GB in a month, the 7GB would be rolled over to the next month giving you almost 30GB to use (after the bonus period).

Check the website for the list of available included countries for the international calls.

Also full Telstra network (its debated, but I think it isn't a MVNO).

Also no lock in so you can test the network before you commit to something.

  • I'm with Optus on a similar plan to this $35 one: https://smb.optus.com.au/opfiles/Shop/All/cis/Cis%20Document…

the telstra $49/m with 30gb data should have a $10 port in credit if you go on the chat - bringing it down to 39/month
    - you can try your luck at an additional 5gb/month and Peace of mind bonus for that same price if you're lucky.

    • You wont have international calls with it. You would have to pay the extra $10/month for it,

      • ah true. i missed that.

As a belong user I'm going to suggest them as possibly being adequate for your needs ( and even better once voicemail is available which is still coming according to them).

You get 15Gb of data (what you don't use in the month rolls over and if you go over you just get throttled to 64kbps which is still enough for emails but you don't get stung with excess charges), unlimited landline/mobile calls to some 33 countries and within Australia, month by month so if you don't like it you can change and are not locked in, and if you have a referral code or keep an eye out on specials you can get the $40 starter kit for $20.

Did I mention they are on the Telstra wholesale network (which unless you require Telstra retail) which for city dwellers like myself is more than adequate.

The only thing they don't have is volte, decent customer service and for the time being no voicemail - only that speed to text sms conversion service.

  • Well Optus has a $40 sim only plan which does include international minutes.

  • Oh snap, you just missed an online promotion for Optus which was $45 for 80gigs a month. Expired on the weekend.
