If you don't mind having a separate device for the voip I would suggest the Linksys PAP2T (~$25 from ebay) and Siptalk as the provider.
Then just use whatever router you want.

  • ATAs like Xetrok are a good solution. If you are looking for a new router in any case, I have been incredibly impressed by the Fritzbox, just note that it does not include QoS.

  • Just something to keep in mind. From what I've read, a number of providers require you to use their own devices for VoIP. I understand this is usually to correctly prioritise VoIP traffic on the network. Without it, I hear that some providers won't even provide SIP settings. So, it might be good idea to check with your provider if you have not already.

    • yes i have read this as well. But would like my connection to work and would worry about the voip later (if i even need voip. Only ever use the home phone to tell overseas marketers to go away as of lately. Sigh)

I’m really thinking of migrating from telstra cable to their nbn for one month just so they give me their smart modem/router in one. It would work with ABB but the voip i doubt.

Can always fibd something later, but this is a bandaid solution while i hunt for deals and learn more about what would suit

  • Or get a CISCO ADAPTER SPA112 and whatever router of your choice.

  • Thank you everyone, got some homework to do!
