Buying Long Life Milk (Oat, Rice, Almond, Soy) in Bulk (Online)

Over the last few years I've done this, but I feel I'm not getting a great price.
I don't drive, and I live in a regional area. Hence online is probably the best option.

The three contenders are:
1. Woolworths Online
$10 delivery + maximum quantity of 36
2. Coles Online
$4 Delivery + maximum quantity of 20
3. Amazon
Dependent on seller, but there is Soy milk (no added calcium) delivered with Amazon prime, max quantity 10.

Each box of milk has 12 x 1 litre containers. I normally buy about six or seven boxes and that lasts me about six months. Long life milk usually lasts 12 months+ (according to the Best Before date)

I've set up price alarts with pricehipster.com.au.

Questions:
1. I prefer added calcium. Aside from Vitasoy Calci-plus, how do I identify online which ones have added calcium?
2. Are there any other options? I'm not considering powdered long life milk, or water with crushed up calcium tablets

  • how do I identify online which ones have added calcium

I assume you can find product details and nutritional information for almost everything online, so… Google?

    Are there any other options?

Honestly, living regional + not being able to drive is going to limit your options. Are you able to cycle down (with or without electric bike even) to the shops every week or two?

    • You are right; health information (not fully on woolworths.com.au or coles.com.au is available online: https://soy.com.au/product/oat-milk-unsweetened/ )

Unfortunately cycling is not an option; besides I'm not sure how many dozen milk cartons anyone would be able to carry on a bicycle :)

      • +1

You wouldn't have to carry so much if you had more frequent shopping trips, but yeah it's far from ideal. Amazon Prime might be actually a good option for you since you're doing such regular shops, and with Prime you might be able to get away with more frequent deliveries (for free) so you get fresher product.

  • How about making your own Oat Milk and adding powdered calcium?

    • Is that difficult?

Buying in bulk only matters if you're saving something. Otherwise just but in the max lots to get the best value out of the shipping fee.

Woolworths Online is 28c per unit delivered, while Coles Online is 20c per unit.

    So buy from coles

I normally buy about six or seven boxes and that lasts me about six months

Again why? Unless you're saving money, there is little point.

Why not buy a 20 slab from coles every 2 months instead?

    You need a cow.

    • +1 for the laugh!

But where can I get a soy cow? :p

      • +1

where do you get soy which has breasts so you can milk it?

        • +2

thevofa might be able to give you directions on how to milk it!

Place a larger order (adding long life/canned products is a good idea) and get free delivery.

Woolworths has free delivery over $300.

    Simple.

  • When half price

36x lots of variations eg unsweetened/regular/ home brand/vanilla

    Making almond milk is easy

  • Yes wait for half price at woolies or coles. Vitasoy are the only ones I have found that have biggest calcium.

You can also purchase a soy milk maker and make your own, perhaps adding your own calcium but you might need to do some research around what's best here

    • Vitasoy also tastes the worst out of nearly all the store bought brands (IMHO)

  • I have bought a Woolworths Online shopping pass for $129. This saves you the shipping cost for orders over $100 from memory. You can find more details on their website: https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/discover/shopping-online/…

You can order multiple times a week, as long as the final order amount is greater than $100, shipping is free.

    • Wow you must order a lot of for a huge household.

For a single household the saver is not worth it imho or I just get delivery from coles.

      • Oh I order once a fortnight on $50 a week as a single person living alone too.

I don't actually order multiple times a week, just wanted to explain the saver pass to OP :)
